Hi Andy, and welcome to the nuthouse.

I, too, am hoping to do a little overseas marshalling next year, so would be interested in any details you can find. This is something I'm hoping to expand on my website.

I'm not sure how useful this is, but the Catalunya circuit has a marshalling application form. I don't remember if this is just for the GP or for other meetings. The form is in Spanish, but even I can understand most of it.

The URL is http://www.circuitcat.com/ingles/index.asp

Best of luck,

Paul.

Can I add a query to this - one of our lads is very interested in doing the GP at Monaco. Now I could be wrong, but I've always had the impression that this particular GP was a "closed shop". Can anyone clarify?

EP - having worked with French marshals who do Monaco, I'm afraid to say for on track marshalling it is a closed shop.
The memory's a bit vague, but I seem to remember that most of the chef de Postes (observers) are Monegasques with limited experience elsewhere and that their course teams are French. This was from a FFSA licensed observer, who did'nt hold them (the Cs de P) in high regard. There is a rigorous selection process involving various tests of fitness and an upper age limit - which I've forgotten now - mainly cos I'm well past it . Maybe try a wee search, I'm sure I've mentioned it before. aha - maximum age for new marshals - 30, automatic retirement at 50.

After Canada 2002 I was offered the chance to be a paddock marshal, apparently Serge who I'd been teamed up with all weekend and his mate the chief paddock marshal though I had enough French to get by - errm thanks guys but no thanks.

Nobody's mentioned contacts for the US GP yet, I only did it in 2000, but was still geting paperwork for this years event, sent it on to Observer, who'd thought about doing it see
this thread for the chief's email addy

Good grief - there'd be no marshals at all if that was the case in the UK!!

Andy I would contact Bruce ASAP if you want to do Melbourne next year as they have normally started to sort out the numbers. You should get on but you will need to suply them with letter from your club (assuming BMMC) to state your marshal skills. I will forward you a PM with the details of Indy contacts e-mails but the people Kathy Maleck and Pat Pierson. If you do go to Melbourne next year would recomend Malaysian Airways from Manchester or Singapore, will save you having to go via London.
I am sure you will love Melbourne as it is really laid back and a great party!

Hi Andy,

I can concur with the other re Australia. I did try to marshal at Barcelona but got no response to my emails or letters, and tried for Monaco this year and was turned down.

Yesterday was the due date for returning marshalls to send in their form for Albert Park (Melbourne) so they will start sifting through the pile of forms and working out who's coming and who's not and then looking to fill the holes.

Bruce Keys is still in the system and would be a good starting point to let youknow the paperwork you need to submit and proof of experience from over there you need to send over.

See you in March.

I just got an invite last week for the 2004 USGP.
I think the forms need to be back with USAC by 1st december.
They have a new address now in Michigan, so I'll find it and post it here!

Tuesday was Melbourne Cup day and a Public Holiday to boot (only in Australia would you get a day off for a horse race) and a hell of a lot of us take Monday off giving us a 4 day weekend.

And what is the problem with that? Even the F1 try and make it a bank holiday weekend

Guys and gals, a word of caution. If you wish to give out telephone numbers, may I suggest you do it via PM rather than post to the open forum? Please remember that not only members visit Ten-Tenths.

Thanks,
