Autosport
Nice to see Marcus Pye trying to help recruit new marshals in his column in Autosport.
Autosports GP editor Jonathan Noble used to be a member of the South Mids BMRMC and was once newsletter editor for this region, perhaps he could be talked into writing an article on marshalling. |

Makes a change then.
Normally he is full of the "I was privileged to be invited to the launch of Fenella Cholmondely-Smythe-Hammonds racer that was last campaigned in the 1978 "Race of Ruperts" by the late Lord "Blinkers" Toffingham who once lent me a second hand vol au vent" school of writing. He's not so bad I suppose. At least he keeps Shelsley to the forefront. And he is a Chevron fan. Last edited by Fireblade; 5 Mar 2004 at 15:50. |

He also once correctly reported that many Wiscombe Park competitors were "spitting blood" at the abandonment of a September event in the wet. Makes a pleasant change from this week's specialist press whitewash of the serious problems caused on the Sunseeker Rally.....

Maybe those press present weren't aware of the problems. Did you tell them?

A dry sunny July day does not guarantee a dry day for some competitors. I remember one Porsche driver sticking his car nose first into the stream 3 years ago. Also, Wiscombe is the only venue I know that seems to allow dogs in direct contravention of MSA regs. Last edited by Fireblade; 5 Mar 2004 at 18:07. |

I thought it was very nice of Marcus to give marshals a mention. However, we should really have been further up the list dontcha think??

Went round the new mallory park with Mr Pye at the end of Feb. I think he's coming to commentate on the 14th. Maybee we should give him a wave.

Marcus is indeed going to commentate on the 14th - and Edd our Club Editor is making his Stock Hatch debut as well at the same meeting...

Shame because I still rank Martini as one of my favorite posts in British Motorsport. |

Good thread - thanks to Marcus for putting his support for marshals in print where everyone can see it. Let's not forget that as well as testing he's keen to get his bum in all sorts of cars and RACE them, so he does know from considerable experience what's wanted from marshals from the racing driver's perspective. I'm all for his support of historic racing and the grass roots, rather than the $200 million dollars a season madness of F1. We should all encourage him in his support of marshals (in ALL disciplines) and remember that 1. he visits us all and sees us at work, 2. owners wouldn't let him out in their priceless & irreplaceable machines (the Romulus ERA for example - did you see that in Autosport a couple of years ago? - brilliant!) if he didn't know how to use them.
While on the subject, cheers also to Martin Brundle and others in the public eye for putting in a good word for our work... Great to see John McIlroy is watching the Marshals' Forum, can Stephen arrange to get it in Bernie's 'favourites' too? |
