A new challenge and money.

After a bit of elbowing from Willi Weber.

Kimi hasn't won the title yet, for one thing.

Why don't you know?

Money and a new challenge, could have just gone to Mclaren or Williams or even stayed at Benetton.
Five seasons later his 'dream team' finaly paid off but Fearri is the only team he'd want to be in, and he made it his team, when he is this late in his career, surely he wouldn't want to do it all over again, and who would want to go to Ferrari now? All their key players that were part of their success are leaving. And I can't see them improving.

According to the Autosport website, Bernie Ecclestone is "willing to bet" on Raikkonen going to Ferrari in 2007; is Mr E just being mischievous, or does he know something we don't?

I think Bernie's just stirring.

He's said similar things before about drivers and teams which didn't happen.

IMO Kimi is McLaren through and through and it will take a lot to prise him from Dennis' grasp.

But he isn't really in Dennis' grasp. To a large extent, it is up to Kimi where he goes.

I think he'd be crazy and stupid if he has decided already, at this stage, to go to Ferrari, but stranger things have happened.

There is a difference between engineers and drivers though.

Engineers are more likely to be tempted by higher money. They can work their magic and do as good a job as usual in any place.

A driver is more biased towards success and the people around him than money usually.

For that reason Kimi should stay at McLaren, as things stand. But what if he made a decision on it 12 months ago, or what if his decision is yet to come?

Anything can happen.

As a Ferrari fan, and an admirer of Kimi..it would be great to see Kimi at Ferrari. Reminds me the same feeling i got when i hope Michael choose Ferrari.

The fact that up til now, Ron announce NOTHING about Kimi's contract must be worrying for Mclaren fans. The news that his star driver MAY be leaving is surely unsettling for the team personnel, and Ron is one who would announce such a deal if it is already done (ie remember how keen he is to announce JPM 1 season before he come?).

That Ron has insisted that he wants Kimi, yet not having a deal, meant that Kimi is thinking twice about the contracts, and that meant there's a chance he'd leave.

Although Kimi may not choose Ferrari with Michael around, he must be aware of Ferrari's treatment of their star driver as well as the prestige & money that comes with Ferrari. And certainly, every driver would love the challenge of leading a team the way Michael did from 96 - a driver that MADE a difference.

I'm not saying that Kimi is definitely heading to Maranello. But with sources claiming so, circumstances hinting so...and Gabrio saying it in another post some time back... it does look interesting.

Yes, obviously the McLaren-haters want him to go, but for the sake of his career, Kimi would be best placed staying at McLaren.

Kimi would be mad to go to Ferrari in their current guise. What happens in 1-2 years time anyhow, aren't Ross Brawn and Rory Bryne leaving?

Rory will be off either this winter or next to run his scuba-diving centre in Thailand.

Ross will likely leave in a year - he's long said he wanted to return to Britain.

KB...care to elaborate "Mclaren-Haters"???

Yes, Rory is looking set to retire at 2007, hopefully successfully handing over the reins to his appointed successor within Ferrari.

Ross may leave due to his desire to return to his family at Britain.

But Jean Todt, after his recent promotion...might not. And Ross was similarly promoted...which may convince him to stay for an additional year.

It's not an issue of "wanting" Kimi to leave because people hate Mclaren. It's quite exaggerate to use "hate", and i'd think those who HATE any of these great names really don't have much respect for our sports.

Remember, that no matter what... Ferrari still meant alot to many people...not just drivers. Who is to say another great designer/engineer would not want to join Ferrari? You know the guy working his magic at BAR? He had voiced his desire that working with Ferrari may be a dream for him. And there'd be others who would love that opportunity.

And Mclaren has been great, no doubt. There's this ex Ferrari chap who had contributed a great amount..and these days...the likes of Williams/Mclaren poach staff from Maranello, which shows that Ferrari isn't lacking in talents. And of course, Newey isn't going to stay around forever in Mclaren is he?
