I'm a bit skeptical about drivers would do a lot different if point system were last year's system.
I have not seen many (overstatement) times when a driver could choose between overtaking or not. In fact probably this year has had more "action" that last seasons (although this is due to bigger equality among teams). I neither see a lot of teams decision about choosing a conservative strategy for second instead an aggresive one for win. I don't think F1 allows that type of "fine-tunning" in these years. I think they go basically flat out, restricted by reliability concerns (about cars and driving). Certainly *some* repercusion has to exist between point systems and driver's behaviour, but I think it perhaps is not very significant in our case. A fascinating case happened when Senna-Prost in McLaren and they had that system with "dropped scores". Lots of "what if" that season! |
