Yet they used to have wet races back when Mosley was still in reign, now as soon as there's few drops they'll coward away with long red flag stoppings followed by 2 hours of safety car running just in time to change to change inters for slicks. Paired with trusting everything drivers say in relation to the situation even though their views can be biased. Furthermore the tracks itself has sterilized greatly since the end of last decade, and even then they were already at the peak of hyper nanny protection.

Keep in mind that a roll hoop is basically a flat angle, sticking straight up. Any foreign object hitting it straight from the front would basically be caught. A canopy would be sloped and offer the chance of glancing off of whatever the car hits. Not to mention it would provide what could be a crucial last line of defense between the driver's head taking the full energy of an impact (like in Wheldon's case) or not. Would it be 100% foolproof and guarantee against every possible scenario? Of course not, we unfortunately learn time and time again that in motorsports nothing is fully safe but I'm fully confident a closed cockpit would have increased Wheldon's chances a lot.

He's lost control of his car in area, where it had already happened during the race. It wasn't his fault and I'm sure no one in their right mind will point fingers at him.

It's obviously sad to see someone like him go out like that, but I hope that the family can at least take a little grain of solace in the fact that it wasn't such a drawn-out affair like Bianchi's death.
