Needell in a Nissan??

I was looking at the pictures of the 1998 season on Redshoes Racing.com and I noticed that Tiff Needell was driving a Nissan? And some guy named Flavio Figueiredo was in a Vectra! I never knew about these people driving. Could somebody tell me about the conditions of them driving?

Needell - Tiff Needell hosts the BBC TV car show Top Gear, and in 1998 it did a story on the BTCC, as 1998 was the 40th anniversay of the championship. He drove at rds 21 & 22 at Brands Hatch, the one where Mansell crashed in the same place in both races. He drove the third Nissan to help with story, and Brands was also the big 40th celebration round. I believe Needell driving the third Nissan (#24?) didn't please 1998 Nissan BTCC test driver Aussie Steven Richards, when he signed the test deal earlier in the year he was told not to expect to race a third car because they didn't have the budget. They managed to find it for Needell and also nearly did when Alan Gow propsed for the last round at Silverstone to have Jody Scheckter in the third Nissan and Alan Jones in a third Williams Renault Laguna to go up against Mansell in the Ford. Pity that never came off.

Flavio Figueredo - He was Vauxhall BTCC test driver in 1998, and when Cleland was injured after his big crash at Snetterton, he couldn't race at the next round, rds 17 & 18, at Thruxton, so Flavio took his place. Didn't do to well though.

Flavio Figueredo was a Vectra Challenge regular, and I think he was a champion (?????), he got the drive in the 888 team because of this.

Yes, Flavio Figueiredo was a Vectra Challenge driver, and ended the 1998 season third in the standings behind Mark Blair and Simon Graves. Blair went onto the Independants in the ex-Works Vauxhall as his prize for claiming the title.

Considering he only got the call up of the Friday and had never driven a SuperTourer before I though he did pretty well. 11th I think it was.

Oh, okay, thanks for all the info. Jeez, on the review vid Charlie Cox and John Watson could at least have said Cleland was hurt and couldn't drive!

Needell had a race wining car in 98 yet ended up trawling the back of the field either hitting people or blocking Rydell as he came through too lap him. He was not invited again.

Regards

Guy

Another positive post from Guy! Can you confirm where you work because Brian Griffin and David Jones have never heard of you? I understand that the final 2 MG seats are down to 4 drivers. Can you enlighten us who they are or would you like me to tell u?
