Team's Radio Communications Brand of Choice

Hi Guys,

I'm wanting to know the choices are out there in regards to what teams use for their comms. Besides the Peltor Lite-Com series, what else is there?

And what are the main features to look out for when choosing a comms package for a team?

thanks guys..

cheers

I'm sure I posted on here this morning.

I have PM'd you, with details.

What you want is dependant on what you actually need to effect comms.

Do you just want comms in close proximity to the pits, or over the whole circuit - somewhere like Spa offers quite a few challenges.

Then there's licensing. PMR446 stuff is not much more than toys, then there's UK General licenses, but they limit you to a small amount of channels that can get very busy. Other than that, there's short term hire, or hold your own licence.

Some suppliers like selling cheap stuff. As we know in motorsport, cheaper is not always better!! "will do" quite often doesn't!

There are new technologies coming in, like DSP (digital signal processing) which reduces the background noise, and pukka digital radio systems that offer almost noise-free comms.

I'm working on both DSP and digital systems myself. The latter is more expensive, but at the moment, it's offers secure comms as it's almost unique, and the scanner operators can't hear you!

Rob.

Different thread, Rob. The other one is in the Racers' Forum.

I'll close this one, to cut down on confusion
