#63 corvette Debacle

what a story
1 hour i and Ron fellows stuffs the car into the tyrewall
then he battles it from 40th to 3rd(gts) and 7th overall
and then he cuts a rear (at hour 8 i think) and spins off the Straight on the hill crest, makes the save and gets rear ended by the LMP2 leader!
LeMans is full of this I can't believe it is a nailbiter and it is on for 8 hours just now. and 16 to go oh man crazy

Waheey, the first vaguely Le Mans Race related thread!
Seems a bit odd us all following everything in the chatroom.

But yeah, unbelieveable bad luck for the 63 car. I bet Ron is pretty embarrased it was him the the car both times too.

Who bumped that LPM2 car into Fellows? That guy was quite cheesed-off!
I was watching for a car to enter the pits with a crunched front but I never saw one.

i think he wasn't bumped- he slowed and crashed into fellows himself...Racer blame is either the car, crew or another car...

also
McNish has a concussion!
the 8 (?) Audisport team Veloqx wil be racing with 2, TWO! drivers for the remainder of the race!
poor alan! he bolted from that wrecked audi like a bat outta hell and i bet he went and tossed his cookies after that crunch, he went to the local hospital...the car did look a wreck, it really must have rattled his head a bit

Two things.
I read that Allan is out for the year. Concussion rated "severe".

The driver of the Courage said that he slowed for the yellows from Fellows (I'm a poet) and that some blankety-blank hit him from behind.

Yeah, i heard that too, but according to dretceterini fellows' tye exploded over the mulsanne crest and the LMP2 behind just had nowhere to go and clouted him.

From www.lemans.org
Saturday 12 june
A Statement from Allan McNish

"Coming into the Porsche curves just as I started to brake I saw a puff of
smoke which initially I thought was a tyre exploding on a GT3 car, but as
soon as I braked I lost grip. I turned into the corner and I was just
sliding and I knew it was oil. I knew I was going off the circuit but I
tried to go into the tyre wall at the best angle possible. It was quite a
heavy impact because it's close with very little braking and acceleration
and I went in at quite some speed.

"There were no flags but to be honest and in all fairness I saw the puff of
smoke one or two seconds off impact, so in reality I'd be surprised if they
were able to react to something like that straight away. When I got back to
the pits I got out of the car because first of all when you drag a car that'
s got two or three wheels back, you get out so the mechanics can get to work
because it's a natural reaction. Then Dr. John who was was already on the
scene took me through the back and sat me down to give me a complete check
over, at which point they decided to take me to the medical centre just for
some verifications and I didn't have any spinal injuries.

"When I hit I wasn't unconscious; no head-slump or anything like that, but I
was dazed in the impact. When I got to the back of the pits I was in focus.
When you have a big impact you have to take things a little more calmly,
especially when the doctors tell you to sit down, I take their advice. I'm
very disappointed because at the start of the race the car wasn't very good
but it was getting better as the race wore on. But that's motor racing: it's
one of the sides of Le Mans you don't want but it sometimes happens.

"The doctors have advised me not to drive again this weekend both for my own
and others' safety. Their advice is that it's not appropriate to continue
which is disappointing as the car's back out. I've always taken one thing as
clear: when doctors tell you one thing, they're the experts at that. We're
the experts at driving, the engineers are the experts at setting up the car
and the doctors are the experts about your help. And obviously I don't want
to put myself or anybody else in a compromising position. I've got a few
aches but nothing I wouldn't have expected. In comparison to 2002 it was
like a walk in the park!"

Thanks very much. That interview sounds very positive so hopefully he is not out for the year. He really is a class act.

The #64 Corvette came together with the leading P1 car. The P1 car kept on going but the Corvette went off course and then made it back to the pits.

Does anyone know how Sebastien Bourdais is doing? I know he had some problems with his car some hours ago.

Thanks for the info and the link, mp356a! SeaBass is now in 7th, but the team is now 17 laps down right now. LOL Just under 10 hours to go before the checkered flag!
