Bravo Button

We knew it was coming thanks to basically everything Jenson has said across the past year - but it is now official thanks to the Norris promotion to McLaren. Retirement for Jenson from F1 - officially.

Well done Jenson, fantastic career and a thoroughly deserved WDC in 2009. Must admit it took me a few years to warm to Button, but from his BAR years on I really enjoyed him as a driver and person. All the best in your future racing endeavours. Would love to see him on a F1 broadcast one day - I'm sure he can add plenty.

(now watch him make a complete nuffie of me and sub in for Abu Dhabi!)

Well he already said he wouldn’t come back after his race at Monaco. It was probably the right time too. At least it means he’ll never take that grid penalty he’s got!

I think it's good to have a final send off here. If he had made a clean cut earlier, I expect a thread like this might already exist (sorry if it does) and would have generated a fair number of posts. But given his exit has been very much in slow motion it has dulled the response.

I know a few continued to speculate about his return (especially if Alonso didn't re-sign), but I think it's been clear for awhile that he was never coming back. Especially as mentioned above about some of what he said post Monaco and then more recently with him saying he felt he stayed in F1 a year too long.

I do look forward to seeing him racing again. I would love to see him at LeMans looking for an overall win.

Richard

Simon The Likeable will be missed.
I did get the impression he was really enjoying his year off, and was a bit appalled that he was called up for Monaco.
Hope he enjoys his retirement and resists the temptation to do something stupid that gets him injured.

Jenson has my sympathy, specially for his 2009 F1 title with the Brawn BGP 001.
Somehow Honda greeted him for his campaign with them, specially 2004 superb season and 2006 victory at Hungaroring.
It's a true WC, respect. Surely he'll suit a place in the paddocks.
