Usual suspects at the top of the timing sheets - Hamilton, Massa, Raikkonen, though Kovalainen is ahead of Alonso at the moment, with about 11 minutes to go in the session. No completed laps so far from Sato, Davidson or Rosberg. Button struggling in 17th. Glock looking good in 6th. Bourdais outpacing Webber (10th and 11th) but Piquet is struggling in 16th.

Strange that live scoring now shows the red was to clear Nelsons car. Nick must have parked his car out of the way somewhere just before Nelson stopped.
What are Williams doing (or not) this session - only three laps each? |

As expected up front, Ferrari with a slight advantage over McLaren.
I'm surprised at the gap between the top two teams and the rest, over a second, but at least it's pretty close from fifth to about sixteenth. The track looked green, plenty of minor mistakes, and a surprising number of reliability problems; Heidfeld, Coulthard and Rosberg. Last edited by Charlies; 14 Mar 2008 at 00:47. |

That Ferrari is going to do rather well tomorrow I think - typical mind games of setting fairly even times with McLaren up until the last 5 minutes and then getting a 0.5 sec advantage. The McLaren chaps looks a little perplexed after FP1!
Oh well...never mind, we have started F1 '08! |

Not sure about Speed TV...apparently some folk "across the pond" so to speak have had some success with this link:

Well, that was all fairly predictable wasn't it.
The Ferrari's slightly ahead of the McLarens and then sort of one of each (except Toyota) from each team in the mid-field pack from thereon back. What happened to Williams? Why is Button 11th?!!! Why is Fisi 12th?!!!!!! |

Nico had gearbox issues, Jenson has a Honda and Fisi is in a Force India.
Maybe they are both overperforming, or maybe as its the first FP of the year? |

Williams had mechanical issues from what I saw. Rosberg ended up going into neutral unexpectedly (thats what it appeared to be, anyway) on his outlap and went into pitlane. Not sure what happened with Nakajima.

But it does look like Honda aren't quite so bad as maybe we all thought and certainly Force India aren't going to be the two cars running at the back of the field. |

Odd that Williams should do no running at all. Even if there was a fault on Nico's car you'd have expected them to get some mileage on Nakajima's car at least.
Glock was more impressive than I thought, and everyone else pretty much where I thought they ought to be. Last edited by pirenzo; 14 Mar 2008 at 02:50. |

Second practice underway. Vettel quickest, followed by Trulli, Kubica, Rosberg, Nakajima, Bourdais, and Glock.

The cars sound so much better this year is this because of the lack of tc?
