Nice bit of history there. I’m sure Gerard will let us know if any of it is incorrect!

The new Alpine A110 is getting rave reviews from journalists that have driven it. That such a famous name is capable of producing a competitive product from scratch is good to hear!

Talking of journos and thus magazines, Autocar’s Christmas ‘road test’ features the Tornado locomotive. Nice....

Returning to the programme about Concorde, a brief mention was made about the American project called Boom ( I would call that an unfortunate name for any sort of transport) that proposes a new supersonic airliner to carry around 50 premium passengers.

Well, Japan airlines have just issued a press release that they have been and are financially supporting the project as well as providing technical input. And they have placed an "option" to purchase 20 of the new aircraft, which is estimated to be able to enter service in the mid 2020s.

They have a website with artists impressions. Smaller but not dissimilar....

https://boomsupersonic.com

Just a shame no U.K. input (apart from Virgin)!

I've just discovered that Channel 5 have an on-line catch up service so I can use this to watch the Concorde documentary. I'm now hoping that I'll be able to find a couple of hours free from my chores on Sunday (whilst my missus is at work) to watch both episodes.

As to 4 CV's you can't imagine how much sensitive the historic cars world is. I was chief editor of a tiny magazine and sometimes needed help from free lance journalists. One day it came to road test a 4 CV Découvrable and looking for a genuine example - not a fake one based on a "berline" without roof and a piece of tent in place - I asked to Renault Collection to borrow their. My free lance was a girl and I dunno why she felt it was good to write that the 4 CV's was nicknamed "whores of the road" because you could see a lot on the roads with their legs above their heads. Believe me or not I had to beg pardon from Renault and presented many excuses under the form of an expensive lunch. By this time, Renault Collection was ran by Mrs David, mother of a young Peugeot works racer!

By happy coincidence, I see that the new Alpine production line at Dieppe was officially inaugurated yesterday by Carlos Ghosn & Bruno Le Maire (a government minister).

It is said to be the only line in Europe producing aluminium body/chassis cars. There has also been a 60% increase in staff over the last two years, admittedly only taking it to 392 but still good news for the area.

You were doing well until you said nicer than a Lotus!!

Actually I'm assuming there is a little Lotus/Caterham DNA in the Alpine as although the partnership with Caterham ended I know of ex Lotus people who have worked on the project. It is certainly a nice-looking car - I'll come & see you when you've got one, Terence!

Apparently one of the differences (note I didn’t say advantages....) between the 110 and anything using the Lotus tub is driver and passenger access. In the Alpine it’s possible for a normal size person to get in or out without getting a hernia!

The Alpine looks great, specially for a French car, but I wonder how they make their price calculation. Why it is so expensive is beyond my understanding. May be its good but looks overpriced imho.
Jean, nothing personal here, I really enjoyed the Elise or Exige but always regretted the lack of feeling from the steering. And the Rover K is generous when it comes to overheating…

Tomorrow will be the 35th anniversary of the death of Colin Chapman, so a little bit of respect & reverence is due at this time (even if the Elise/Exige did come later!).

Mike, having used an Elise for my daily transport too and from Belgium for three weeks(part of a developement thing) I did learn how to get in and out quite comportably.Seat all the way back for starters. But our height difference would not help you much😁
Although to start with there was only 122bhp to play with on the superb roads involved, all B type roads) best I managed for the 53klm one way trip was 57mins.
Time we had finished with the car that came down to 41mins.(A lot more fun&#128514
Excellent road holding and brakes interior noise made the radio redundant.Havent had the chance to try the Evora yet,but am looking forward to that as much as the A110.

I managed, although admittedly it's not so much height that's my problem...

An Exige with a roll cage was a bit of a challenge, however!
