Castle Combe! - Mighty Mighty Minis - 7th May

Yes, I know most people will be either at Thruxton, or Powertour at Oulton, but I'll give it a try...

The Mighty Minis tour comes to Combe! The regulars will probably confirm that Minis are usually close and exciting at Combe, although I've never raced there personally

I'll be there for a testing session next Thursday (3rd) and the race will be on the bank holiday Monday (7th)

Other than the Mighties and the Super Mighties, we have MG Midgets, Special Bob Light GTs , Super Coupe cup, Castle Combe FF1600, CC Saloons (Formerly Pagids), ARP F3 championship, Cambridge Motorsport TR register/TSSC (?). Phew

Our qualifying and racing is waaaay early - qual is 8:30am, and the race is 13:30

Who's coming?

Super Coupe Cup too ? ******! Sorry bloke - i'm gonna miss my first MM round this year, and i'm gutted about it!

To everyone else who'll not be at Powertour or (or indeed the CSCCGB meet) I can heartily recommend the mins - go on, get your arse down there!

I will be there along with all the other Combe regulars. I will be marshalling somewhere so I will make sure I give you a big wave after qualifying.

I will try to pop into the paddock to say hello.

I hope testing goes well.

I'll be there Chris. For both days!!

I'm seriously thinking I should be staying down there for the couple of days in between though... From one side of the country to the other, and back - twice! In three days...!! Poor car!

I'm not missing this one though.

Yep, I'll be there, along with the ever elusive Mr. Friel I hope Just one thing that concerns me was Chris's response to my left foot braking thread, saying he was going to give it a go this weekend. Have you seen the available run off at Combe???

Would I miss Combe for Mighty Minis and MG Midgets?? Who do you think I am....

As for Thruxton, I got through the final instructions and looked at the timetable.. 5 practice sessions on Sunday and 5 races on Monday, only starting at 12:45.. Why don't they just run it all on one day, rather than waste peoples time??

Tickets went back, so I'm on my way to Combe..

See you there Chris, just avoid me, NickR and Marshal, ok.

Would I do that? Nope Come and find me in the paddock and bring yer passport - we want written proof it's you

It'll be great to see and meet you guys, although hopefullly not during race or practice...

As for the staying over bit Sparky, I reckon we'll have to organise a room somewhere, as the weather forecasts are saying floods in some Southern areas I wouldn't stay for all 4 days in Wiltshire though..

Very true, fella...

...And I wouldn't even get to watch a Mini race either!
You have my deepest sympathies, Craig.

Can't you tell 'em to poke it and become a professional spectator instead?

I am not going to post my true feelings here right now, because I know that at least one person from work reads these forums occasionally. But if you happen to be reading, TERRY RUSSELL, I don't think you better mention your ****ing schedule tomorrow... okay ?

A good test Chris, well done. 1:36's, not bad. 1:34's for the race then
No, really, well done and things are looking good for Monday.

Good stuff! Well done Chris! Sparky texted me this morning and told me you'd got down to 1:38's, so it's looking better all the time Just wish I could make it myself

Have you fitted the brake light switch we spoke about yet ?

The test was good.. Started off doing 1:46s - brought that down to 1:40 by the end of the first session, then brought it down to 1:38 in the second, then 1:36 in the third. I think that's the lowest time I'm going to get with my current experience and the car setup!

The day finished on a bit of a downer though. I've managed to bend my driver-side door in a bizarre garage-based mishap. I was unloading the car from the trailer and the door caught on the trailer stabiliser post. It's bent like a banana now and won't close. Im gutted

So tomorrow and Saturday I'll be offf trying to find a replacement door or getting this one repaired and re-stickerd. I could have done without that, and I'm really kicking myself now.

Chris, good going (apart from the door). I heard that the MM's were good for a bit of door bashing. He He

How does that time match up against qualifying last year ?

I hope to come across during the Lunch break (if we get one. Can you confirm that it is an 11 race meeting. I guess that there are Mighty Mini's, Super Mighty Mini's, 2 Super Coupe Cup races, 2 CC saloons, GT's, FF's, Migets, TR Register (?)and ARP F3. (Phew).

Good luck with your door hunting.

Nah, I think I'll take them off..... Being 6ft 4 I was advised to go for extra big Probans, christ I look silly. Lunch break at Chris' Min sounds good to me. Perhaps Dan will join us.

Mighties are first out aren't they ?

At least being 6' 4'' you should stand out, and yes Mighty Mini's are first up, so we should try and make it the first half of Lunch.

News is.. Chris should avoid crashing at Camp corner - otherwise he might embarass himself in front of a few Ten Tenths marshals..

Cool, we were there for ARP F3 last year as I recall. Also not so far to the Paddock at lunch time

One thing, I hope we don't have to practice our Mountaineering skills over the new wall too often.
