Transition to low CO2 transport - on track
Renewable Energy - 1 of 4 goals achieved

Single Use Plastic - 1 of 3 goals achieved

Mods - apologies if this is going off topic by discussing wider sustainability goals not related to the climate.
Fan travel is the big one too. We can sit and talk about the cars, and even the transport of things. But the reality is this is actually quite small compared to the amount of people traveling to a single event.

Agreed - and recognised by F1 in their strategy.

So far:

  • Partnering with local transport authorities is a critical part of organising an F1 race - with venues such as the Circuit de Catalunya offering over 50,000 additional seats on public transport and providing hybrid buses for fans to reach the circuit
  • Incentives for fans to reach the circuit by low-emissions technologies include free bike servicing in Austria and dedicated parking for EVs
  • Incentivising fans to use low-carbon methods of transport to reach the circuit was a core strategy of the Formula 1 Heineken Dutch Grand Prix. Over 25,000 spectators travelled to the circuit by bicycle with a further 40,000 arriving by public transport
  • F1 is exploring options to allow fans to offset their travel when purchasing tickets through the F1 ticket platform

I note that the Circuit de Catalunya is mentioned as one of their successes, and they are now moving to a different location. I would assume the same initiatives will transfer to Madrid.

Having circuits situated in the centre of cities, such as Albert Park and Singapore, is certainly an advantage, however there are also tracks such as Suzuka where most spectators travelled by car because the cost of train travel there is so expensive.

I agree with all of this, but it is a little bit of a false impression. A lot of these solutions are 'last mile' solutions. Public transport to the circuit is fine - but you're not bussing across Spain/Netherlands to the circuit. You're driving to a park and ride.

I agree this is a lot better thamn absolutely nothing, but F1 attracts international spectators, so bikes and buses barely make a dent in that.
