FIA World Motor Sport Council Meeting
The WMSC today has changed a number of things for the 2013 and 2014 F1 seasons.
For 2013, there will be stricter front wing deflection tests, and also "There is an increase in minimum weight to compensate for an increase in tyre weight for 2013." Heavier tyres. DRS use will also be limited to the area of the DRS zone during all practice and qualifying sessions. For 2014: "The requirement for cars to be driven exclusively under electric power in the pit lane has been postponed until 2017." "A number of changes have been made to the power unit regulations with the aim of limiting technology in some areas in order to reduce development costs." "Changes made to bodywork design, originally aimed at reducing downforce and drag for increased efficiency, have reverted to 2012 specification." http://www.fia.com/news/world-motor-sport-council-2012 I was particularly looking forward to seeing cars with bodywork designed specifically to factor in the loss of fuel capacity. Now it looks as though that will be made up by alterations to the current chassis. Any thoughts? Last edited by Marbot; 6 Dec 2012 at 00:03. |

With fuel use at a premium in the 2014 I wonder will blown exhausts become a costly addition? Barn door wings will also be another heavy fuel user. I suspect that 2014 cars will look a little different.

Remember that there isn't actually a fuel 'limit' in the 2014 regulations. |

Fuel equals weight, there may not be a written limit, but you can be sure the designers and engineers will already have an idea of the maximum all up weight they will want their cars to be at come the start of a race distance.

An interesting article on what we should expect in 2014 with regard to how the cars will be changed. It now seems that they had got their sums wrong........ http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/formula1/20640255 |

I found the remarks about Schumacher would be acceptable to the governing body if he had a close relationship with Ferrari, but was now unacceptable because he is too close to Mercedes!
