[iV8SC11-R21&R22] Armor All Gold Coast 600 - October 21-23
Now is the time to mix the season of endurance up a little... some foreign imports with a wealth of experience in other categories are arriving soon, to test next week at QR, and race the following weekend on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
Plenty of action, activity, and spectacular incidents there over the years. Will the fun continue this tome? And more importantly, who might just win the thing? For mine.. Mr Tander seems to be on a roll... Pilots now seem to be confirmed for the event too... The final list for the Armor All Gold Coast 600 reads: #1 James Courtney/Dan Wheldon (ENGLAND) Toll Holden Racing Team Commodore VE II #2 Garth Tander/Ryan Briscoe (AUSTRALIA) Toll Holden Racing Team Commodore VE II #3 Tony D’Alberto/Vitantonio Liuzzi (ITALY) Wilson Security Falcon FG #4 Alex Davison/Marc Lieb (GERMANY) IRWIN Racing Falcon FG #5 Mark Winterbottom/Will Power (AUSTRALIA) Orrcon Steel FPR Falcon FG #6 Will Davison/Mika Salo (FINLAND) Trading Post FPR Falcon FG #7 Todd Kelly/Richard Westbrook (ENGLAND) Jack Daniel’s Commodore VE II #8 Jason Bright/Stephane Sarrazin (FRANCE) Team BOC Commodore VE II #9 Shane van Gisbergen/Emanuele Pirro (ITALY) SP Tools Falcon FG #11 Greg Murphy/Oliver Gavin (ENGLAND) Pepsi Max Crew Commodore VE II #12 Dean Fiore/Gianni Morbidelli (ITALY) WesTrac Racing Falcon FG #14 Jason Bargwanna/Tony Kanaan (BRAZIL) Jana Living Commodore VE II #15 Rick Kelly/Jorg Bergmeister (GERMANY) Jack Daniel’s Commodore VE II #16 David Reynolds/Alex Tagliani (CANADA) Stratco Commodore VE II #17 Steven Johnson/Dirk Mueller (GERMANY) Jim Beam Racing Falcon FG #18 James Moffat/Joey Hand (USA) Jim Beam Racing Falcon FG #19 Jonathon Webb/Gil de Ferran (BRAZIL) Mother Energy Racing Team Falcon FG #21 Karl Reindler/Fabrizio Giovanardi (ITALY) Fair Dinkum Sheds Commodore VE II #30 Warren Luff/Marino Franchitti (SCOTLAND) Gulf Western Oil Commodore VE II #33 Lee Holdsworth/Simon Pagenaud (FRANCE) Fujitsu Racing/GRM Commodore VE II #34 Michael Caruso/Augusto Farfus (BRAZIL) Fujitsu Racing/GRM Commodore VE II #39 Russell Ingall/Jan Magnussen (DENMARK) Supercheap Auto Commodore VE II #47 Tim Slade/Helio Castroneves (BRAZIL) Lucky 7 Falcon FG #49 Steve Owen/Boris Said (USA) VIP Petfoods Commodore VE II #55 Paul Dumbrell/Christien Klien (AUSTRIA) The Bottle-O Falcon FG #61 Fabian Coulthard/Patrick Long (USA) Bundaberg Racing Commodore VE II #88 Jamie Whincup/Sebastien Bourdais (FRANCE) TeamVodafone Commodore VE II #888 Craig Lowndes/Andy Priaulx (GREAT BRITAIN) TeamVodafone Commodore VE II |

Seems Lowndes is the #1 at 888 at the moment. Eariler in the year it was Whincup with Priaulx. The previous history between AP and CL will help them. And AP is the best international driver in a v8 IMO

I wouldnt think Mr Bourdais will be a slouch... one of the superstar teams should be looking at picking him up for a full time gig!

OK . You are right in relation to Bourdais being no slouch, however I think that CL is better off with Priaulx. |

If Mr Courtney can receive a $1m a season package from Holden & HRT, why wouldnt a multiple time international champion be on the radar to race here for a similar value?

Not saying Bourdais is a slouch, no way. He was wawesome with with Webb last year. But in a v8 supercar Priaulx kicks his arse in a v8 |

It will probably never happen, but I'd like to see all the internationals put in the cars for a 20 lap sprint on the Saturday afternoon. This is one of the best fields of overseas drivers we will see (I'm a biased sports car racing fan) so it would be good to see these guys perform against each other.

Soft tyres this weekend I believe? Will make the racing much more interesting with more pitstops (75L tank back for this weekend or is it still the 120L?). Hopefully we can avoid what happended last year and all the co-drivers did the first stint and handed over to the regulars

With the serious accident over night in the Indy cars and a few of the drivers that were meant to be racing at the GC hurt, and one unfortunately is in a very bad state, what will happen? Maybe not the ideal time to be discussing this seeing as it appears Dan Wheldon is in a very bad way

Yeah VESi and a few of the teams might want to be working on replacements ASAP. Dan Wheldon in a serious condition and many of the other GC600 drivers may have surstained injuries. Huge crash

Very sad for Dan's family and friends. I hope Will's back is not too bad. I feel sick, the atmosphere on the Gold Coast will be very sombre now.

In the scheme of things, the GC600 isnt very important. Not sure who is in the frame of mind to come out here and run now anyway.
Thought to Mr Wheldon's family and friends... just so sad |

This made me want to cry when I read it the first time. It is so much more terribly sad now.

Well said GTR. Pressed disturbing that some people are SO worried about who will be replacing him already. Bad form.

My thoughts:
1. RIP Dan Wheldon. Tragic day for his family, friends, teammates and fellow competitors. 2. I do believe that HRT should withdraw #1 as a mark of respect. To replace Dan like he was just a number would be disrespectful. |

RIP Dan, I assume the funeral will be in a few days. Wouldn't the Indycar drivers be attending this rather than a trival V8 race in Australia ???
Could send the GC600 into disarray. |
