They are looking more consistent, but not much better performance wise. Really Williams and especially Force India should be higher, but Haas are probably where they should be

To be fair, Alonso lost quite a few positions on the first lap due to Grosjeans mishap, he was always going to be up against it after that due to the lack of straightline speed.

Not really, Alonso qualified ahead of Grosjean and went off himself well before Grosjean spun. Grosjean spinning helped him gain several places so he was really lucky with that.

Fair enough, either way he qualified 8th, lost out in the first few corners which is a very rare thing for him, was 11th at the end of the first lap and that is what i was getting at.

No problem. I agree that Alonso will outperform the car. But I think the car is pretty poor.

Still a lot better than last year!
One lap pace is clearly lacking but generally the car isn't too bsd on a Sunday. Was Stoffel's stoppage the teams first dnf of the year? |

It's interesting. On one hand they have scored 40 points so far, compared to 30 for the whole of last year! On the other we just know they aren't doing as well as they could be and it feels like they are the slowest of the three Renault teams (although only one point behind Renault).

There is no doubt that McLaren are clearly more competitive this year, but last year's benchmark was a low base to improve from. They still have a long way to go. The chassis itself is lacking, and flattered by Alonso dragging the car to finishes above its station. |

But don’t you know McLaren have the best chassis in the world. It’s all the engines fault |

It’s good job you haven’t read it. You don’t need to to know that it’s true.

I have read it and I realise the McLaren is not quite up to the standard that’s required to be a winner

Bit of a cash injection for McLaren - by Nicholas Latifi's dad. Doesn't appear that there is any kind of move for Latifi to become part of the McLaren stable, not that there would be much room for him! |

Well they need all the help they can get, I don't think he'll be part of the team though, the current staff are just fine

Which team are you going to invest in?
Fancy investing in a British club team? |

I think we could see more teams in the future, who knows what teams would appear?

The gap between F1 and other series is just so huge now days. The option to go get Dallara or Lola to build a car and throw a Cosworth engine in the back simply isn't there anymore. |

It's always handy, to have an extra 200m quid but it seems the problems McLaren have been having over the last few years, are less to do with money and more to do with the structure of team, drivers excluded.

McLaren would never say no to a bit of extra dosh. But it seems they don’t have that magic anymore. Money doesn’t help, but I thinks it more than just with the staff, although their drivers aren’t getting it any higher

A 25% success rate of even surviving, and the one that did had factory support. What a wonderful situation to be in - that's completely stable, secure and won't in any way become an issue.
