They still have that race? Wow. Last I heard only 10,000 people turned up and I thought that was all she wrote. I guess someone is writing some checks out.

That was 2009 that the crowd was dismal. Last year was an improvement, it has only a few of the grandstands from the CART days, but standing room was reasonably full, of course there is less standing room thanks to BMO field.

Unfortunately, I won't be going as I'm on the other side of the continent. I always enjoy reminiscing about CART of the 90's at Toronto.

And Andretti-Green Promotions have wrangled a few people into check-writing.

That is horrific. Toronto only cares about one sport - and it certainly ain't racing.

2009 was bad, because the race was cancelled in 2008 with the demise of CCWS/merger with IRL being too late to include it. Andretti Green Promotions did a crap job in 09, but last year was much better under the new Savoree-Green promotion.

I haven't seen/heard much except a few little bits here and there this year, but I've been tuning out a lot lately so I may not be aware of some things going on since I'm not watching TV or listening to more than about 30 minutes of commercial radio per day.

I'm going to try and get down on Sunday, but I'm doing a 5k "Warrior Dash" on Saturday so its only a 50/50 chance.

Race Day attendance used to be about 60,000, with the weekend gate #'s topping 100k. That was back when Molson promoted the hell out of the race and Forsythe was sponsored by Players who would blow a lot of cash too.

Yupp, I remember when Players had booths in the midway, and people walking around in blue and white with cigarettes. Different time, if tobacco money was available the rebuild for open-wheel would be slightly easier. Of course, alcohol money is still available and you don't see much interest outside of Budweiser's desire to sell beer by the bottle at events.

Interesting to note the Sunoco logo on the inside of the endplates. Suncor recently bought up a majority share of Petro-Canada, but because Petro-Can has a far bigger market share at retail level than Sunoco, they have rebranded them all to the Petro-Can label (excepting some that were sold off to Husky).

Wow, the positive surprises in here are definitely Hinch (beating his more experienced teammate) and Danica (being the best Andretti car on a street course). What's up with Conway, Hunter-Reay and Sato? I hope they can make a comeback in qualifying.
