Can't find the answer anywhere so I'll ask here see if anyone else has seen it:

Sky's F1 channel has been annouced as HD. Does anyone know if there will be a non-HD option at all? As my TV is pre-HD my previous non-fuss over F1 moving to Sky has changed

The dedicated channel will be provided at no extra charge to all Sky TV customers who take both Sky Sports 1 and Sky Sports 2 or the HD pack of channels. It will be found at 408 in Sky's on-screen guide, after a scheduled move of the Sky Sports channels. Sky Sports viewers without the Sky+HD pack will receive a standard definition version.

I've read in a couple of places that Steve Ryder's involvement in the Sky coverage will be to host a series of programmes interviewing various high profile drivers.

The way Steve Ryder was plugging Sky at the Autosport Awards tonight, you'd definitely think he's lined up for a job. It got pretty tedious and although I missed the moment, I hear Jenson Button slapped him down a bit for it.

I'd rather see Martin Brundle do that, he has an insight to the sport Steve Ryder just doesn't have.

So would I. He's a genuine motorsport enthusiast and one of the few who could live up to the fantastic job Jake Humphrey has done on BBC.

Tend to agree Brundle would be better for in depth driver interviews. Insight and relationship only another driver can have.

I think Steve Ryder is old school. He's a professional, serious broadcaster and a rare broadcaster in that he adores the sport he's working on.

The trade off to Steve's preparation and disciplined approach is that he's often blind-sided by surprises and has difficulties improvising. Jake, while not perfect himself, is much more fluent and relaxed in this respect while upholding a standard of professionalism.

The problem I have with Sky is that they have these vanilla presenters with character by-passes or else when they try to do a more casual sports program they are grubby Frank Skinner/Chris Evans type shows at a tabloid level.

The BBC, with the fan forum, got it right from year one. You had a good laugh but the sit-down conversation never compromised on value.

I don't know if Sky are able to get that note right.

I remember the 'Steve Davis and Friends' magazine program for the snooker. It was a very relaxed, Mel & Griff type interview program with past and present players that Sky did, was as cheap as chips to make but very rewarding to watch for just half an hour. That for F1 would be class, with Brundle hosting. Brundle would have a greater affinity with the drivers sharing alot of their experiences himself. Not unlike the Motorsport Magazine podcast although that's roundtable discussion with a few journalists.

Here's a tweet I just copied from Twitter. After the Autosport Awards everyone goes out for a drink and tongues are a little looser than usual, so I wouldn't be surprised if it were at least 90% correct: "The Sky Sports F1 team to be announced on Wednesday. Add to Brundle: Steve Rider, Simon Lazenby, Georgie Thompson, Mark Blundell and....EJ?" Not sure what I think about Blundell and EJ, but we only have a couple of days to wait. Who's the main commentator then?

I would guess...... Ryder as an in-studio anchor for the pre-race and post-race, MB & MB doing the race commentating, EJ as on-site pundit with the other pitlane reporters.

I wonder it they'll then grab other pundits / guests and put them in the studio too, then you could get a PictureInPicture now and then when the studio squad has something to say.

I can't say I've missed Blundell. Should be interesting to those watching next year, and hopefully for you he's learnt how to speak. Rider is nowhere near as good as Jake either IMO. Pretty pleased the BBC have still got a decent lineup next year and I'm sure they'll find a suitable replacement for Brundle and be more than a match in the ratings war.

Wow! I missed that last night. Not much love lost is there? Very funny that MB appeared not to know that it was being broadcast on the 'net and now there's a YouTube clip. If they can get Anthony Davidson he'll be more than a match for Brundle, but he's very keen on his sports car racing so I'm not sure to what extent he'll commit.

Mmmm..... the conversations here do sound quite familiar to when Jake Humphrey and others took on the BBC1 coverage.

Still, with nothing else to fill the void until wednesday, and then nothing until the new cars appear - let's speculate and cogitate.... ;-)

I thought David Croft was going to be the main commentator with Brundle doing the co-commentating.

I think Rider, Blundell and EJ are doing the pitlane stuff, like JH,DC and EJ did for the BBC.

I understand Coulthard and Lee Mackenzie are staying with the Beeb, along with Jake who will also be presenting the Olympics, that being his main reason for not jumping to Sky.

I think Kravitz will be doing the paddock interviews for Sky, with James Allen joining the Beeb to do the same.

I am not sure who will replace Crofty on Radio 5 Live, possibly Maurice Hamilton.

I thought Crofty was becoming the lead commentator with Brundle reverting to the expert role.

Ryder, EJ and Brundell together would have me switching on for the grid walk and switching off straight after the race, much as I do at the moment with the BBC because of the antics of EJ.
