ARTA announces 2017 participation plan.
According to Autosport web, ARTA has changed M6GT3 monocoque because of last year's crash. http://www.as-web.jp/supergt/96016?all |

Huh? The Suzuka 1000km has so much history, why are they abandoning it? I always thought it was one of the more popular rounds.
Pity that the 'replacement' isn't even a 1000km race either. Does that mean the history of the event is over? |

No.
Mobility land says that Suzuka 10h race is a succession of Suzuka 1000km race. |

It makes sense for the event. It's lost something by being a Super GT race compared to the FIA GT or invitational years. You only get the odd overseas extra driver instead of foreign teams and cars and the field size is stuck at what any other race gets.
Changing the race length is a bit unfortunate for tradition but 1000km would be underwhelming for a premiere GT3 endurance race. Consider the possibility we could see GT500 drivers in factory GT3 entries as well. |

It would be good if this event is part of the SRO Intercontinental GT challenge.
Bathurst 12 Hours, 24 Hours of Spa, 8 hours of Laguna Seca, 9 hours of Kyalami, Sepang 12 Hours and 10 hours of Suzuka would be fantastic. |

Guess we can scratch Sepang then... didn't get a good turnout the last few years and Ratel pretty much went on record saying that the only reason that they have it in the ICGTC is that they have no other event in Asia.

Sepang should be replaced with Silverstone if they want another Euro race, or Sau Paulo if they want South American.

I'm back guys, and it's unfortunate that GT500 cars aren't allowed to race in the Suzuka 10 hours next year. Still, it's great that GT300 cars can race alongside some of the best GT3 teams in the world. Just hoping that it'll have a fair balance.
Meanwhile, I wonder if GTA will make a replacement Suzuka round for GT500 cars? |

I think the problem to be part of the Intercontinental GT Challenge is the tires, SRO have Pirelli and GTA use free tires

The round isn't part of the IGTC from what the news stories are saying. So hopefully the tires stay open.

That's big news with Sven Müller joining the series as the reigning champion of the Porsche Supercup and Porsche Carrera Cup Germany, and a newly-minted Porsche factory racer as well. D'Station Racing look to be serious championship favourites now, my goodness.

If the Nürburgring 24h has multiple tyres, I don't understand why would the Japanese select a single supplier for the Suzuka 10h.

Or if the only way to attract teams to a new, unproven non-championship race is for it to either be very cheap or have a prize fund, and one way to raise contributions is by auctioning off spec tyre status.
