2012 V8 Supercar Calendar

Seems there is going to be some drastic changes to next year's calendar.

http://www.speedcafe.com/2011/09/19/...o-v8-calendar/

With Sandown once again becoming the warm up 500km event while Phillip Island becomes the second last event. The Clipsal event is know the first event with the Middle East races going to Novemeber with the Abu-Dhabi event becoming a support race for the F1 circus.

I think this is only getting better.

V8Supercars really do treat the Sandown 500 with alot of disrespect,

This is the second time they have come back after ditching it for supposedly 'greener pastures'

Come back how? The Norton 360 has been at Sandown anyway, it just hasnt been a 500km race.

You also have to look at the Sandown facilities for the team garages, and that bloody big wall at the back.. that have recently been upgraded.

Its not likely Phillip Island will lose an event, it will just change in structure...

I meant the '500' at Sandown, and the tradition behind it.

I'd heard that the well of money flowing from Abu Dhabi has very much dried up. No option for a stand alone event, drastic reductions in the freight subsidy, airfares and also that maybe V8 Supercars has to pay the 'Bernie fee' for the TV footage.

alwyas enjoyed the sandown 500, used to go every year, have only been to 1 PI 500, although i did just go to the saturday races

Sandown is one of those circuits where you can see nearly the whole track. and it has that awesome grand stand

Agreed, I'm not keen on hearing any ramblings about 'tradition' or 'history' from V8HQ about this.

They set fire to the Sandown 500 tradition way back in 1999 when they took off to Queensland Raceway which had no proper pit lane garages at all!

In more positive news, stories out of SEQ suggest a new 3 year deal with Symmons Plains is imminent!

Never let it be said that the last word is the final word!

Some truth in that but there may have been other factors at play too - like a "promoter" at Sandown back in the day who let's say wasn't prepared or wasn't able to put the event together professionally. When the Qld govt came calling, the decision was made easy for V8s.

On the other hand, the decision to move the event to PI once it had gone back to Sandown never made any sense to me. Run and promoted properly, the 500km race at Sandown could pull a serious crowd in the way that it used to and the place suits the endurance race. Sure, it'd be nice to have a better pit lane and some of the spectator areas could do with a freshen up but if the 500 gets locked in, maybe that investment might make sense for the racing club?

Exactly, buy next to a race track, airport, highway, fun park, whatever, expect noise!

As someone who use to live close by, 21 years, the council never consulted or attempted to consult with us regarding the noise. Every time they side with the people who complain the most and most of them have probably lived around the circuit for a long time. Top that off, the council approved sub-division of more properties right next door and buyers where advised of the noise, yet the occational noise complaint comes through, which I know from experience is usually one that is forced through as the people whom live close by then to keep to themselves and don't like to attract attention in any way.

I doubt anyone from the council would be reading, but would just like to say that they're a joke. Whilst I'm at it, your public consultation in relation to the new kindergarden/community health centre in Springvale was farce, along with the guarantee's of limited traffic into one of the streets. I'm glad that none of my hard earned comes to you as in the form of rates.

And stop exaggerating the noise levels, it's V8Supercars not F1!!!!

All you have to do is go into the CBD in Melbourne or Sydney and the decibel levels have to be high from all the street noise.

If you live in an urban/suburban area, likely there will be noise from one source or another.

The full 2012 Calendar is out: Here

Quote:
THE 2012 V8 Supercars Championship calendar has been unveiled today at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 at Mount Panorama.

Series officials have confirmed a record total of 16 events – an increase of one over 2011.

There will be a total of 15 championship events plus the category's regular non-championship appearance at the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park.

Among the notable changes to the calendar are the return of the traditional Sandown 500 in September and the move of the YAS V8 400 at Abu Dhabi to November, where the event will be a support to the Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The home of the annual pre-Bathurst, 500-kilometre endurance race for the last four years, Phillip Island will now take up a May date, while Symmons Plains in Tasmania will also move, from November to late March/early April.

The ITM400 Hamilton, set down for April 20-22, will be the last on the city's street circuit in New Zealand.

A total of 14 of the championship events locations have been confirmed while the weekend after the YAS V8 400 – November 9-11 - has been left as a TBC (to be confirmed) on the official calendar issued today.

The championship will kick off on Australian soil with the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide on March 1-4.

Also announced was an expanded Fujitsu Series with the development championship to grow to eight rounds for the first time in its history.
March 1-4: Clipsal 500 Adelaide
March 15-18: Australian Grand Prix Albert Park, Melbourne
March 30-April 1: Tasmanian Challenge Symmons Plains, Launceston
April 20-22: ITM400 Hamilton, New Zealand
May 4-6: Trading Post Challenge Barbagallo, Perth
May 18-20: Phillip Island Phillip Island, Victoria
June 15-17: SKYCITY Triple Crown Hidden Valley, Darwin
July 6-8: Sucrogen Townsville 400 Reid Park, Townsville
August 3-5: Coates Hire Ipswich 300 Queensland Raceway, Ipswich
August 24-26: Winton Winton, Victoria
September 14-16: Sandown 500 Sandown, Victoria
October 4-7: Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 Bathurst, New South Wales
October 19-21: Armor All Gold Coast 600 Gold Coast, Queensland
November 2-4: Yas V8 400 Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi
November 9-11: TBA TBA
November 30-Dec 2: Sydney Telstra 500 Olympic Park, Sydney

Looks like a it's going to be a great season and I'm sure alot of people will be happy to see the season starting in Australia in 2012.

Looks like there's less of a gap in the middle of the season too which will be better!

Not sure what the Early November round will be, maybe India? Singapore? or Philippines?

So its a 16 round championship with 14 championship rounds confirmed.

16 - (Melbourne GP + 1 TBC) = 14 championship rounds = Abu Dhabi has points as an F1 Support.

So when's the press release out to say that the Melbourne GP is now a points round? When will Speedcafe ask TC that one?

TBA would be Singapore wouldn't it. They'd be just waiting for that permanent in Changi to be finished (or started even...very hard to find any info about it).

Sandown 500 back
Clipsal 500 openbing round
Good to see the V8s and F1 together in Abu Dhabi too.
---
16 Events this year, 18 next year with Philippines and America? Finally a decent amount of rounds!

Could not have said it better myself.

If the weathers good, I don't think Ipswitch or PI could ever match Sandown for a crowd
