2017 in review

Shamelessly recycled from two years ago. Best to review the year that was in Australasian motorsport.

Best race: Bathurst yet again. Was an awesome bloke's weekend away with my old man (even though he had trouble walking due to a knee injury alongside nearly drowning on Sunday) plus scoring some stuff. (Sweet talking my way/retail rep girl felt sorry for me and gave me a Red Bull retro jacket for free and using that jacket plus doing some sweet talking to get a Red Bull corporate ticket from some Holden rep girls to hang out in their pit bay at the start of the race) Bonus was catching up with Greg Rust, the 2nd family that is Brad Jones Racing and laying the foundations for doing something next year for the 12hr.

Best driver: David Reynolds. Supercars' Deadpool is showing some of that magic that made him a great driver when he drove for FPR/PRA and seeing him win Bathurst was pretty cool giving him a slight edge from Scott McLaughlin.

Best team: Tied between DJR Team Penske and Erebus Motorsport. Both have lifted themselves to new levels overall and in regards for Erebus, smaller teams taking it to the bigger teams.

Best moment: Too many to count. Bathurst weekend, meeting my childhood idol Greg Rust face-to-face at Queensland Raceway and doing some charity stuff within Supercars. (Plus getting a DJR-Pesnke cap and poster for a friend in the US who lost his Dad to cancer as a bit of thinking of you and cheer up as he's a Team Penske fan)

Worst race: Can't really think of one. Possibly the first race in Tasmania and the huge pile up. Rather silly from the top-tier of Australian motorsport.

Worst driver: James Courtney. How the mighty have fallen. Hopefully Andretti and United can lift the Walkinshaw team so that Mr. Courtney doesn't have to overdrive the pig of a car and make rookie errors.

Most disappointing driver: Fabian Coulthard. Led most of the first year, was going strong then fell apart near the back end of the year. What the hell happened man?

Worst team: Mobil 1 HSV Racing. No wonder Holden pulled the pin and gave factory support to Triple Eight.

Worst moment: Personally, meeting Allan Moffat. After showing his true colours to myself and two little girls in front of their parents, once is more than enough. The Sandown crash between Webb and Hazelwood was scary. (I shiver in fear hearing Crompton and Skaife screaming in horror when the BJR car does it flips and spins)

Weirdest moment: Triple Eight and Dick Johnson Racing-Team Penske (more so car #17) being off song in the Bathurst race.

can someone enlighten me, why was Frosty so shite this season? I mean often he was the slowest from the PRA while he is better driver than rest two. And is there hope he can come back to winning ways in 2018?

6 engineers in 7 years, car setup issues ongoing across several meetings with a new chassis just made the package unworkable for Mr Winterbottom.

Wonder who is on the chocolate wheel to be the 7th...

There was a time when his team mates couldn't get their head around the Winterbottom-centric setup window. Seems like that has changed in recent years.

Best race: Bathurst. So happy to see Davey exorcise his previous demons. Special mention goes to the final race at Newcastle, didn't think much of the track but wow, whoever wrote the script was a genius, despite the end result.

Best driver: Scott McLaughlin for speed. Jamie Whincup for consistency.

Best team: Red Bull. Learnt lessons from years ago and got Whincup's car out to collect points at Bathurst, ultimately winning him the title.

Best moment: Taking my boy to Phillip Island for his first time. Scotty's Shootout lap at Bathurst.

Worst race: None come to mind.

Worst driver: As above.

Most disappointing driver: Frosty. No wins, only occasional speed, and all too quick to allow people on by. Courtney a close second here.

Worst team: Its hard to look past the revolving driver door at LDM.

Worst moment: Tyre-gate at PI.

Weirdest moment: Watching Scotty miss the apex at turn one on the final lap of the final race of the year. The rest, as they say, is history.

You reckon the tyres were worse than the debacle of randomly punishing PI pit lane infringements because that had the poor judgment to be seen doing it on tv?

There is a new magazine out from the Motor Racing Australia team reviewing the 2017 season.

I know data from one of the worlds biggest media research companies. Thats awesome
Hard to believe that their data is better than a few keyboard warriors and their sophisticated counting on fingers and toes method

Just ask Rupert how to manipulate figures.

Here how you do it.

A WTF survey was carried out on viewers of Motorsport:

80 % said they didnt buy foxtel
20 % Said we have foxtel
of the 20%
68 % said they had the sports pack available
of the 68%
45% said , we occasionally look at it, but we like other sports.
of the 45%
83% said we got it for the Virgin Supercars.

SO there you go Pecky

83% of Australian said they got Foxtel for the Supercars

Just like any news poll, Morgan Gallup Poll, etc, etc etc

Maybe there are faires in the bottom of the garden or upstairs in the attic behind Annies clock

Just saying, all figures can be manipulated to what ever outcome any organisation wants.
