Race calendar

As well as Brands Hatch hosting the opener, we now know that the final race of the A1GP season will be in China.

Good news anyway that another round has been confirmed. Not really a surprise, but a logical assumption that China was going to have a round.
Is it interesting decision about making China as a finale though? It doesn't strike me as "What an ideal place for the end of season spectacles", but it's not something that strikes me as being a bad decision either...

I think it may be an inspired move to have the finale in China.

Biggest population in the world - a huge market to tap.

To have the "end of season" festivities there coukd help enormously.

Australia is also confirmed to have a round, but the venue and date is yet to be finalised. I read somewhere tho that the AUS round is in November. It was announced at the AUS team launched

His nearest track is in Dubai, funnily enough!

And there are likely to be races in Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar.

Does anybody know how many rounds there are going to be in total?

Japan and Malaysia are surely potential host countries, South Africa too possibly? (I'm blatantly just guessing randomly at this point )

Interesting, I was just thinking. Shoudnt the series now be eligable to be a official FIA sanctioned World Championship? I mean the series meets the criteria, running on 3 continents, Europe, South Africa and Asia. Would be a boost to the series stature IMO if the FIA were to grant the series this status.

The name "the world cup of motorsport" means it doesn't matter whether it's an official World Championshop or not, as far as I can see.

Yep, the entire population will surely enjoy the sight of the Team China car being lapped for the umpteenth time. In fact, they might think that the car is regularly competing at the front!

I think that list is way out of date as it excludes UK (confirmed) I have also seen Portugal mentioned for the 2nd round in October & the last 2 rounds in the USA (east &west coast march-april).

Where does the idea that less races means less costs come from? For the amateur club racer maybe. Surely sponsors need as much exposure as possible? Otherwise the WDC might as well be decided over 10 laps of Brands Hatch club circuit.

A1 Grand Prix will focus on venues that can hold a winter series around the world during the off season. A1 Grand Prix is likely to be a 9 or 10 round series starting with a race at Brands Hatch on the 25th of September and finishing some time in April with a race in China.

Round 1-September 25-Brands Hatch (UK)
Round 3-November ??-Eastern Creek (Australia)
Round 10-April ??-??? (China)

Other Likely Rounds:
Bahrain
Dubai
South Africa
Japan
Malaysia

Thats pretty disappointing really.

A schedule of only 9 or 10 races, that exclude all of Europe, and both North and South America is not going to cut the mustard IMO. I don't really see that schedule turning on to many people here, or in Europe either I would guess..

There will be a South American or US round.

There is a European round - Brands Hatch

The series was always going to be largely based in the Southern Hemisphere, as it will be summer in winter!

I think the hype is going to draw in the crowds inititially.. then hopefully the racing and most probably some drama will hopefully keep most of us watching...
