On ya Guss for starting the thread, here are a few links to keep an eye on

www.nzv8s.co.nz is slow with news though

http://www.mylaps.com/ for results, generally loaded about an hour after the race. Sorry i dont know of anywhere with live timing

http://www.nzmotorsport.co.nz/content/home.cfm many articles found here

http://www.motorsport.org.nz/News/news.htm

All practice sessions are Thursday (all classes apart from A1GP) so would be worth checking mylaps then. Qualifying Friday

I will be trackside and if your lucky i might take the laptop and post a few updates & pics at night

Code looks fine thanks Woolley.

Word from the track is Practice got delayed buy an hour (that was at 3pm anyway) because of track issues. Mini's, F Ford, GT3 and Production all managed to get in their practice with only TRS & NZV8 on hold.

I believe it was breaking up in places. From memory that also happened at last year's round.

Wasn't there some concern about the track because of the recent Mag 6.8 earthquake? I recall seeing a PR email about A1 being cleared, but wondering if this is what this years track break up is stemming from?

Not sure, will hopefully find out tomorrow. I did ask if it was the new turn 12 but was told it was elsewhere.

I believe last years issues were something to do with a mismatch of components between the track surface and the A1 tire compound (well that was what i was told)

This was part of the release sent out on Jan 2 by Taupo Motorsport Parl MD, Dave Steele:

Quote:
Taupo Motorsport Park management will check their circuit carefully to ensure it hasn't been affected by the brace of earthquakes to hit Taupo in the last week.

An initial earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter scale was recorded at a depth of 120km near Taupo last Thursday, followed on Saturday by a jolt measuring 5.6 at a depth of 80km.

Taupo Motorsport Park managing director David Steele said the depth of the earthquakes should have prevented any damage, but the track is still being carefully scrutinised ahead of the A1GP Taupo between 18-20 January.

"When we said we were ready to rumble for the A1GP, we didn't mean for the earth to move like it has," Steele said.

"We've given the track a decent once over ahead of this weekend's Taupo Car Club national race meeting and we'll continue to keep an eye on it as well as check all our temporary structures during the next week."

This may be a championship defining round for the Rat. With no more practise sessions left, he has a tough road ahead of him to qualify well, and he could lose quite a lot of ground on the championship top three for this round. But then again the Rat has got talent and a lot of determination, and he may come out with all guns blazing tomorrow.

If Kayne goes to TKR this season, then he won't be driving the final champioship round at Teretonga, as it looks like there is a clash of dates with Eastern Creek V8SC Round 2 (7-9 March). So Kayne will have to try and get a good points buffer over the next three rounds, otherwise it looks like the championship will be between Johnnie Mac and Angus Fogg.

It's strange that David Besnard is not mentioned as I thought he would competitive here considering it's the team's home track.

It's going to be interesting to see how qualifying goes tomorrow!

Snuggles..........If Scooter does get the nod for the TKR car..........He will miss the Eastern Creek round of the Championship due to his contractual obligations with MPM in the NZV8 series........Mr Johns is well aware of this, and a contingency plan has been agreed, that will see the enduro nominee at the wheel of the TKR car at that round....... Scott will drive both the NZV8 Falcon and the TKR Ford at his home town race, around the streets of Hamilton.

As for David Bernard's........DNS today........His team, SCG, were badly let down by their new engine builder who did not get either of the teams 2 engines finished in time for todays practice session........Team mate John Penney was in the same boat..........Needless to say Bezzie was not impressed!

Cameron McLean was 9th fastest...........While Luke Youlden ended up 15th fastest.......Just over 2 second slower than Scooter.

The engines for bezzy's and penny's cars arrived late and the teams had both installed by the time qualifiying started yesterday.
A small installation mistake meant that the bezzy car was not able to take to the track.

He should be on track today, and he was quite looking forward to it. The penny car qualified better than normal, so he was hoping to carve his way through the field.

Besnard made the start, but failed to finish. Set 4th fastest lap in his short 5 laps on the track.
