The Chase For The Championship
We are 10 rounds into the season... and it is clear there are only a few cars that are genuinely in the hunt to become the 2009 V8Supercar Series Champion
The pointscore looks like this: 1 Jamie Whincup 1272 2 Will Davison 1128 3 Garth Tander 954 4 Craig Lowndes 906 5 Lee Holdsworth 897 6 Steven Johnson 873 7 Rick Kelly 807 8 Mark Winterbottom 765 9 Shane Van Gisbergen 729 10 Russell Ingall 728 11 Fabian Coulthard 720 In reality, the cars in 8th/9th/10th/11th place have not shown the pace or consistency to be championship contenders, and arguably too far away from the top of the tree to challenge too. You could say something similar about 5th/6th/7th place too... So are we looking at a genuine 2 team, 4 driver fight for the title? And is that exciting.. or has the potential to be dull? |

Still a long way to go yet. Anything can go wrong to derail the top 4. A couple of DNF's and car #1 is in strife. As todays result showed it is still a pretty good open battle. I agree the 09 champion will come from the top 4 but there is many miles of racing to come. I doubt it will be dull all the teams and drivers are still racing for the win.I think we will see some surprise race winners even if the top of the championship does not change that much.

So are we looking at a genuine 2 team, 4 driver fight for the title?[QUOTE] Would seem to be can not see anyone else regularly challenging for the victories |

When I read the thread heading, I thought you might be suggesting a NASCAR type chase for the championship. As it stands, could the championship be decided prior to Bathurst?

no chance it will be decided before Bathurst, it is close between whincup and davidson. its the equivalent of a DNF for Jamie

would be even closer had it not been for twinkle toes silly antics with 13 to go. what was that about going back to FV8's for Wood James.......... (having said that Wood should be there he has caused havoc in 3 main guys race in 2 rounds James at Tassie, Frosty and GT at HV, he is doing his best PM impersonation).
