XtC24 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the gridXtC24 should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It is saturday and nobody wrote to me about the tickets.
Just to update, theese are ticketdirect to print out by yourself so I could send them via email. For free. It would be a shame if they would be not used. I have tickets for sunday for T4 Billstein Tribune - one ticket for Adult and one reduced (13 to 17 years.). They can be also used for other places on the track.

Ahoy Comrades.

Is there any video coverage of the qualifying (other than paying for a subscription on the WEC website (which is pointless when I can see the race live on 3 different TV channels tomorrow))?

GTE qualifying up now.

#51 literally can't stay on the track, Pier Guidi has had at least two laps struck off for track limits violations.

#51 Ferrari blatantly off the road.

Goodwin: Off the road again, that'll be track limits

Moody: Well he had wheels on the black stuff.

No he bloody didn't. That's not even ignorance of the sport, that's just wrong. He's so out of his depth it's cringe worthy.

If I was that marshal I would have made both Porsches wait. If you want to be first on track, then be first to the fast lane.

Edit - Looks like we've got the bad version of Nelson Panciatici today. Almost ran into the side of a charging Nakajima while we was warming his tyres.

#35 Signatech reported to the stewards for dangerous driving. Panciatici was weaving to warm tyres and almost put a Toyota in the wall.

Eduardo is in no mood for this sort of stuff this recently.

Still not entirely sold on these average times. I get why it's done but it's not as fun.

Good work from Pechito as well, hopefully his quick lap will give him some confidence. Anyone who is (currently) faster than Kobayashi is no slouch.

The top three are (with the Porsches split by .006 on average), the #8 is a couple of tenths further away.

Standoff in the pits between the factories - neither team making the other budge. Yet another (well deserved) pole for the #7.

#7 Toyota
#2 Porsche
#1 Porsche
#8 Toyota

#26 G-Drive (Must serve 3 minute penalty)
#38 JC DC Racing
#31 Rebellion
#13 Rebellion
#35 Alpine (reported to stewards, possibly penalty incoming)

I don't see Porsche lapping Toyota like has been suggested. Great performances from Lopez and Lotterrer especially.

I wonder what happened between Spa and LM that's gotten Freitas worked up? If he continues this course, he could end up like Paul Walter at IMSA and find himself on the outside looking in at race control.

Also, is this set up like in F1 where the officials on the stewards' panel make the actual rulings, or does Freitas get to make the calls?

I think that giving the whole team an insurmountable penalty is BS and that the offending driver should be parked. The ACO did it in the past with Stuart Hall and Rob Kauffman. It's like my stance on teams failing tech inspection at NASCAR races this year. If NASCAR would get up the guts to DQ a few teams that fail tech at the races, that would wake some people up.

Decisions on the Stop and Holds have been Race Stewards not Eduardo - ref track limits - He is clear in every drivers briefing, said it on team radio as the cars are released onto the apron and said it again as the track went green - twice!

For stuff like LM and this weekend, I still say penalize the offending driver, not the whole team. In race infractions like track limits and avoidable contact, then give a potentially race altering penalty. But for stuff that can be pinned on an individual driver that goes above basic infractions--like totaling a competitors car or running into someone under yellow due to inattention or their own actions--park the offending driver.

The ACO did it with Rob Kauffman and Stuart Hall at LM in the past, IMSA did it when then (and current) race director Beaux Barfield docked Dindo Capello and Sasha Massen half a qualifying session at Mid Ohio for causing accidents at Lime Rock in 2008 (he also initially wanted to place both drivers on probation and penalize them 3 drivers points, though those measures either didn't happen or were appealed), Grand Am parked Colin Braun for a race or two for rough driving. The FIA, though Charlie Whiting and their current stewards' panel officials, have threatened Sebastian Vettel with a possible race ban if anything he does between now and the end of the season is seen as being worthy of being examined by either the FIA Tribunal or the WMSC or the FIA President.

Again, why punish the whole team for the actions of one? Drivers already do enough of that to their teams (see the #9 Toyota at LM).

And don't get me started on NASCAR, where I believe they ought to get up the fortitude to DQ teams that are in violation of their technical rules in post race inspection.

Wow, was not expecting the Toyota to be on pole! I'll take it though! Hopefully their race pace will be just as close but from practice 3 it doesn't appear they are able to get the times of the Porsche. We'll see. Looking forward to this race a little more now up front.

Now the penalty for the #35 Alpine is more inline with what I think is fair, though it's basically the same thing IMO as the #24 Manor got a 7 minute penalty for--inattention to what's going on.

I understand that avoidable contact under yellow requiring a more stiff penalty, but 7 minutes vs 30 seconds for what IMO is a largely similar offense?

I think it's not just the officials on the stewards' panel that's gone batty since Spa though...
