World Rallycross R4 - Lydden, England

Entry list for Round 4 now online:

http://media.rallycrossrx.com/docs/W...%20list%20.pdf

30 Supercars
20 Touring Cars
10 RX Lites

Good to see solid numbers for the Touring Cars. Had been hoping for a few more Supercars, but at least there are plenty of home drivers to cheer on.

The last post concerning Lydden on the Retro Rallycross Facebook page indicated that they were going to be there:

Glad I've bought tickets for both days. For people going on sunday I would make sure you take something todo as the morning does drag a bit.

Sunday for me is the ONLY day to go.

Far more track action, less amde for tv schedule fiddling.

And you get to see practice.

And it cheaper.

And there are less people thre.

Whats to lose!

Unless they have changed the dates (again), I thought that it was running on Saturday/Sunday? Otherwise, completely agree, last year especially, more action on the first day and it's good to see practice. Especially as there will be a few cars i havent seen before (mostly TouringCars) I always like to see them come out in practice.

Indeed, forgive the date mixup I get mixed up between the bank holiday days and this one, too many Mondays spent watching rallycross there.

Saturday was great last year, and will probably go this year.

A spectacular feast of Group B and Retro Rallycross legends will be a major attraction during this month’s Motorsport News World RX of Great Britain at Lydden Hill (23-24 May).

Ensuring the sport’s illustrious history is well showcased at the only UK round of the exciting new FIA World Rallycross Championship, the action-packed Spring Bank Holiday programme will include two seriously evocative elements.

A mouthwatering display of winged wonders from the no-holds-barred Group B era will be on show in the paddock while an eye-catching grid of much-loved machines from yesteryear will be renewing old rivalries on track.

The unmissable Group B exhibit will be topped by Will Gollop’s supreme Silkolene Metro 6R4 as well as two of circuit owner Pat Doran’s Ford RS200s: a Pikes Peak model plus the famous Q8 liveried icon, now fully restored after the dramatic fire at last year’s event. The ever-popular Gollop will also lead a dazzling Group B track parade in the 6R4 memorably raced by TV presenter Tiff Needell in the 1988 British Rallycross Grand Prix. Former British rally champion David ‘Dai’ Llewellin is another taking part in the parade driving one of the RS200s.

Hallowed 6R4s will feature on the Retro Rallycross grid alongside several souped-up Minis, a VW Beetle, two Triumph TR8s, a Porsche 911 and Escort Mk3. Numbering 13 in all, these regulars from the Ripla Retro Rallycross Challenge will contest several dramatic heats on Saturday with the fastest qualifiers starting at the front of the 10-car grid for Sunday’s Grand Finale.

“Rallycross was born at Lydden Hill back in the Sixties and so it’s only right that we maximise the high-profile World Championship’s arrival in the UK to celebrate the sport’s history at its spiritual home,” said Doran. “Today’s generation of super-quick RX Supercars are just phenomenal but the crowds still love to see some of these magical machines from previous eras – that’s why it’s so important to include them on the World RX entertainment bill.”

Advance tickets are priced from just £25 for Saturday and £30 for Sunday. These will rise to £30 and £35 for any remaining general admission tickets to be sold on the gate. Accompanied children aged 12 and under will be admitted free of charge, while VIP Hospitality and a limited number of grandstand tickets are also available in advance.

Maybe it is because I am not a native English speaker but this press-message really gets my hair up.

In one short article this Group B parade is described as:
"Big news", "Spectacular feast", "Major Attraction", "Seriously evocative", "Mouthwatering", "Wonder", "Eye-catching", "Much-loved", "Unmissable", "Dazzling", "Hallowed", "Magical"

Not to mention they compete in "dramatic races" at the "exciting", "new" (huh?), "action-packed" WRX-round.

From what I gather Will's car is still safely hidden away at Ken Sims house where his widow is rather not keen at all to let it out of her sight as it was Ken's pride and joy.

So I rather doubt it is the Biturbo.

Not much here to whet the appetite, a parade?

It is a bit of an over enthusiastic press release, isn't it?

I hope there are a couple of Group B cars running with the Retro class. Be nice to see Pat give the RS200 a non-incendiary run.

Time table is up. Saturday by far the best day to go. 30 races against 27 and longer practice. Given the ticket prices for the Sunday, I don't agree with that split. Going to need the retros to fill in some gaps.

Also, Tristan Ovenden in an RX Lite? That's great news for him. Fingers crossed for a good event.

Just seen the time schedule for day 2, which is a Sunday. Have Lydden managed to get a change to the noise restrictions, as I thought they couldn't have engine noise until 12?

They have been doing that for the last couple of years; the Monster stand area (which, if I recall correctly, was at the back of the paddock at last years Lydden round) will have 5 minutes of loud music and Monster girls throwing prizes into the crowd. If you want some Monster freebies then give it a look, if not then its the perfect time for a brew.

There was a bit of drift filler at Mettet (drift truck not a drift car) which wasn't my thing, but it was something to watch instead of looking at an empty track.

Looking at the timetable, I will be treating 14:00 - 15:00 (Saturday) and 13:30 - 14:00 (Sunday) as the lunch breaks.

Does anyone know what the deal is with tickets?

Do you just book them now and pick them up or is there a closing day for advance tickets prices, predictably there is nothing on their site or ticket site about this?

Might be worth shooting them an email to see if you can buy them on the gate.
