No. The Porsche 911 sales of race cars is a profitable business for them. Building a competitor would potentially reduce those sales, and with a car that is unlikely to be a profitable business. Corporately that doesn't make sense.

To be more specific Porsche owns 51% of VAG (Volkswagen Auto Group) and thus controlling it, or rather by the end of 2008 they will be owning all 51%, they are a few short right now but still the biggest single shareholder.
And VAG in turn owns Audi, Lambo, Skoda, SEAT, Bugatti, Bentley, Scania, MAN and maybe a few more even. Complicated story really and no one knows for sure who controlls what and who has the stranglehold on who and with what.

Availability was another reason. Porsche couldn't deliver the cars to Tech 9 until after the start of the season.

Yes the Tech 9 car was withdrawn at Thruxton because of concerns about oil starvation that took out both Mondena Gallardo GT3's.

But both are running at Oschersleben this weekend, fastest in free practice and 4th in yesterday's race

The car which finished on fourth place is the ADAC GT Masters chassis of Haase / von Thurn und Taxis. It is not one of Tech9´s regular cars.

They are running their Murci in FIA GT at Silverstone this year, but I don't see them on the lists for this weekend.

Maybe they are dealing with the oil starvation problems on the Gallardo they need to address for their customers.

The Reiter Lambo isn't at Oschersleben this weekend because Peter Kox has got his leg in plaster and they said they didn't have enough time to find a replacement driver, so withdrew the car from the race.

And they weren't at Adria either because they said they didn't have enough time to prepare the car after Le Mans.

Tom.

Will Reiter continue with the Murcielago R-GT in 2009? Thought I heard something they won't race this year...

If Reiter are concentrating on GT2 with the Gallardo then they might forgo running the Murcielago in GT1. Which would be a shame, if there is almost no one in LMS GT1 then Reiter would be in a good position for a podium and perhaps the win.

But how much fun would that be? And how much would that be worth? I'd rather see them in GT2.

The chance of Reiter racing the R-GT is very small. IPB will not race the R-GT either in 2009 I read somewhere.
The only R-GT racing in 2009 is the one of JLOC in LMS (again) and trying to gain a 24h LM 09 entry because of that.

If there is a sponsor who pays the bill, Reiter Eingineering will race a Murciélago. Otherwise the cars will stay at home.

Will the JLOC car be Reiter run possibily . If their serious abot trying for a Le Mans entry , that would certainly help their chances . Or will this be just another one of their half assed efforts ?

If JLOC will ask Reiter to work for them in Le Mans.....but JLOC (in my opinion) is a kind of team, which doesn´t work seriously enough for a race like Le Mans. They go to races without rebuilding the cars, without a needed quantity of spare parts....
