In Australia, Bahrain and China they used medium (white) and soft (yellow). Malaysia was hard (orange) and medium. China's surface is much more demanding, specially on the softs - hence the marbles offline. If Pirelli had chosen hard and medium, it would most likely been a one stop race. Pirelli's China race report. |

This was a master piece of understatement: ”and as a result we did see some graining on the soft tyre in particular, which also caused a few marbles on the back straight.” If they had chosen the medium and hard, so what if it became a one stop race? If you were so desperate to have a two stop race, just mandate two stops! As an aside: I don't think that suppliers of a standard spec component should be allowed to issue press releases relating to their product. They have ambushed the whole F1 marketing thrust. |

i often wonder that myself. too many stops are bad, early stops are really bad, but why is one considered too few?
a ridiculous amount of marbles in China...i wonder how that plays with the environmental concerns and road relevance brigades? |

Pirelli to test 18" tyres post Silverstone GP.
Paul Hembery: "The 13-inch tyre is no longer relevant to the everyday road user, because even an 18-inch tyre is used by standard vehicles these days." Photoshopped image. |

What bugs me is the lack of backspacing inside the wheel rim. That's why the Pirelli renderings looks so good to me, whereas the Formula E wheel rims dont look as nice.

They're going to need bigger brake discs under those wheels otherwise they're going to look like some kiddie has slapped big rims on his 1 litre corsa with it's tiny, tiny brakes.

Food for thought isn't it... Think about the punishment the tyres take at this time...

Cheers. :- )
Do you remember the days when we had problems with Firestone road tyres in the USA? The police still used them though .. Getting back to racing tyres, I am fairly certain that this is why Mr E would not want another tyre company involved... He would just loose control .. |

Well, Pirelli have concluded their investigation into the "tyre saga" at Spa, and have reported to the teams and the FIA. It would seem that unlike at previous meetings during the course of this year when on average 1.5 tyres suffered cuts over the whole of the weekends, at Spa they had 63 cut tyres.
After qualifying Pirelli even requested that the FIA ensured that the track was cleaned of detrius. It would seem as though this was not done thouroughly enough prior to the F1 race. As far as Vettel's tyre was concerned, Pirelli determined that there remained approximately 30% of the "tread" surface, however they also confirm that the tyre was more susceptible, because of the wear, to being punctured by debris which is what actually happened to the tyre. Rosberg's tyre was also punctured by debris. Pirelli have now instructed teams to increase tyre pressures, and to decrease camber angles. |

I'm not technical enough to comment. I just want to see guys racing flat out for a total number of laps to complete a race, without having to go "harvesting", slowing to conserve etc etc
