Bikes hillclimbing

hi guys, a friend of mine who is bored with trackdays asked if i knew anything about bikes hillclimbing as he has seen a dvd of them somewere and would like to compete.
being the guys in the know i thought i would ask you. do bikes hillclimb in the uk and if so who do we need to contact for more information. the friend in question just so you know lives in the essex area but will travel.
any info would be appreciated!

Bikes certainly do hillclimb in the UK (although I'm not a fan of the practice myself). I'll see if I can find any additional info to back up Rhodo's excellent link.

A useful link - There are some sub-links, but the main site seems to have a lot of information and photos.

Gravel Monkey, your mate should be able to find enough info to be able to start racing uphill and hopefully I'll get to photograph him soon ;-)

Bikes on hills and sprints

Bit of a way off from Essex, but Auto66 runs bike HCs at Olivers Mount and Dalby Forest as well as Sprints at Teesside, Cadwell and Elvington. Some events are consecutive days which can make a longer trip more cost-effective.

Bikes are at The Castle Hillclimb run by Camel Vale MC in Cornwall,a round of the national championship for Motor Cycles as well

an upcoming Motorcycle hillclimb

as luck would have it a Motorcycle hillclimb a lot nearer you than venturing "down south"


Westmorland Motor Club are to hold a Motorcycle Speed Hillclimb on Saturday 28th JULY at BARBON MANOR near Kirkby Lonsdale in Cumbria

Riders of note appearing are
13 times TT winner and Morecambe resident John McGuinness
HM Plant Honda team mate Ian Hutchinson winner of 2007 supersport 600 TT race
World Superbike and British Superbike Rider Kendal’s Dean Ellison
Leighton Haig ex British 450cc Supermoto Champion
Paul Jeffery multiple record holder at Barbon and other UK Hillclimbs
Jason and Dawn Reeve on their FRS 1200 Kawasaki powered 2WD trike

A full entry of bikes is due with machines ranging from vintage to modern sports & race bikes and classes for Quads and Three Wheelers

Appearances by
Steve Plater British National Supersport champion, Twice British Supersport runner-up, British Superbike race winner 4 times.
Virgin Media /Optoma Loans Yamaha R6.
Stobart Honda race team bike.
The HM Plant Honda of John McGuinness.
a chance to win an Optoma Loans race replica Yamaha YZF-R6.
A display of Cyclo Trials.

Practice starts at 9:30 AM with timed runs commencing at 1:00 PM
The event is signed from Jct 36 M6 on the A683

The Barbon half-mile tarmac hill climb has two left hand bends onto a straight where machines can reach speeds of over 100mph, this leads to a very tight right hand hairpin, and a short straight over the finish line with a gradient up to 1 in 12 at its steepest.
