Heed's Raceway - my first fantasy track posted here

http://img228.imageshack.us/my.php?image=track28fw.jpg

sorry, not quite sure how to make a picture a link in this forum

blue bits outside the track: grandstands
brown areas: general admission
purple, grey and blue bits inside the track; pit and paddock complex
yellow; sand traps

Anyway, it's named after a fictional chap named Heed, simply because I couldn't think of any better name. It is set in a foresty area, as is represented by the green background.

It turned out to be quite a fast track...

I included a shorter circuit around the pit buildings and the paddock for small races.

Tour of the main circuit:

First corner: no elevation changes, flat out.

Second corner: slightly downhill and off camber. Coming off the previous corner, it should be nearly-but-not-quite flat out. Leads onto a shortish downhill straight.

Third corner: Long flat out corner that goes uphill and over a crest at the exit; because of this, it could be difficult to get the line right. Probably quite a scary corner.

Fourth corner: Long corner that would create high gforces. Drivers might have to lift a bit in the middle of the corner, creating a danger of oversteering.

Fifth corner: Flat out kink between crowds of people. Important to take it as efficiently as possible so that not too much speed is scrubbed off before the next straight.

Sixth corner: Tricky right hander; slower than most corners on this track. More downforce would help take it faster, but would compromise speed on all the fast sections.

Seventh and eighth corners; seventh corner is the slowest on the track; a tight, steep downhill bend. Would feel odd after going flat out for most of the way. Leads onto a faster left hander that goes back uphill.

Ninth corner; tricky corner that arrives immediately after a crest. It is not flat out but leads onto the long pit straight, so drivers would have to take the best line possible.

Any comments?

A good (and fast!) circuit, with a short option.

... and without chicanes!

There don't appear to be many (if any) overtaking oppurtunities. However i do like the high speed nature of it.

I was thinking that because it's so fast, it would be possible to slipstream more than on other tracks. So turn 6 might be the best place for overtaking, after slipstreaming along the two long straights before it.

VB, I don't understand how changing that corner would aid overtaking. Could you explain?

I forgot the track length. I think it is about 4.5 km

I agree with you that V8's edit wouldn't do a lot to improve overtaking, though it would if it was an anti-clockwise track. I do like the circuit however. It reminds me of Snetterton without chicanes!

Edited version with optional slow parts to aid overtaking.
