2015 FR3.5 Series: Round 4 - Hungaroring
Right, round four this weekend is at the Hungaroring near Budapest.
A couple of news items to start the thread off: * Due to a 'contract issue', Meindert van Buuren was replaced at Lotus on Friday by Alex Albon, Signature FIA F3 driver and Lotus F1 Junior Team member. The Lotus team manager has apparently confirmed that van Buuren will be back in the car for the rest of the weekend. * The low-downforce configuration previously used for Saturday qualy and race one are no longer mandatory. The drivers now have eight DRS uses available for each race. For the record, Matthieu Vaxiviere was fastest in both Friday practice sessions. |

Well there wasn't much wrong with the Russian lad's tactical driving to win on Saturday. That was quite stunning and totally unpredictable performance before the weekend.
Rowland looked well angry, and as well he might as he threw away his front row qualy. However he made amends with a great drive on Sunday to hold off Vaxiviere. Vaxiviere I think will also be a tad teed off not to score more from the 2 races but this season is obviously going to be more about ensuring consistent scoring to win the series than any domination, as it is so tight and only getting tighter with m ore drivers getting to grips with their cars. Orudzhev and Merhi entered the stage last weekend, and Dillmann too seemed to be much quicker than recently. Dams had an absolute shocker. Stoneman did bloody well to make up ground in the first laps of both races and then hang on grimly! Jafaar didn't fare well, a puncture on race one put him out o contention and then he never really figured on Sunday. |

Malja too had a good weekend, and it was nice to see Fantin up at the sharp end. Quite competitive, but unless you're Rowland or Vaxiviere your performance varies per circuit! Saying that, I have exaggerated things a bit...
...amazing performance from Orudzhev on Saturday, I agree. Rowland too on Sunday had just enough to fend off Vaxiviere. Jaafar wasn't right up there but 4th isn't that bad, albeit off the back of race 1 perhaps not enough... ...it's going to be interesting... |

I also think getting rid of the low downforce settings helped Merhi a bit, at least on Saturday. Along with Rowland, he was one of the drivers least keen on it from what I've read.
Even though there's 16 points between them, I wouldn't like to pick a winner between Olly and Vaxiviere just yet - like Biscuits said, they are the two most consistent drivers at the moment and there's little between them really, which bodes well for a decent title race hopefully! Not quite sure what happened to Stoneman, who had his least successful meeting so far. The fact that de Vries also struggled makes me think it was set-up related rather than anything else. Some nice drives from others in the field too: Orudzhev was certainly a surprise and despite the pressure from behind and physically struggling in the car he drove a great race. Malja's podium was a welcome result as was Visser finally having a decent race to score points. It also means every driver has scored points this year too! |

Indeed, long way to go yet.
If only 2 drivers are just about able to score consistently, are we sure that no-one else can yet come on strong and mount a title challenge? |

I personally think loosing the low down force made it a much better race to watch! It was getting a bit bland, you could miss a few laps and wouldn't of noticed anything happen!
