Ferrari/Bridgestone Progress
www.paddocktalk.com is reporting that the Ferrari/Bridgestone team is making good progress, and is happy with there lap times.
"Bridgestone Motorsports Tech Manager, Hisao Suganuma said: We have seens some very good lap times in Mugello this week. It has been encouraging for the strength of the Ferrari/Bridgestone tire package" "Our teams have been running tire comparison tests this week with over 1800(incredible, isn't it!?)tires and over 20 specifications to try, they have their work cut out for them. But, we now have a good indication of our basic tire specification for Melbourne, and we still have a week to make small adjustments. So far, it is looking promising." It sounds pretty good, but does anyone have any specifics on how the new Ferrari is doing, time wise and all? I havn't heard much, and afterall, Melbourne is right around the corner! |

The only hard evidence that really matters is what happens once they get out on track for Melbourne qualifying 1. Everyone's on the same fuel loads, car setups and tyre choices are set, the rookies are suffering from inexperience, nerves come into play, and so on. Thankfully it's not too far away now....

I have never seen Ferrari so comparatively slow in testing. Maybe they are "just testing" otherwise they may have problems this year. Williams seem light years ahead. Ok, not light years but ahead anyway.

However, i never believed that, come the start of the season we'd see a gap as first reported when reports (a couple of months ago) stated that their package was 2 seconds off the Michelins teams times. |

Nah, that would never happen. Heads would roll if that was the case......
Ferrari, McLaren, Renault and Williams will be evenly matched on pace in my book......can you ever remember a season where you genuinely had not an inkling of who would win the first race? Great isn't it? |

Or will we see an MP4-17E variant rock up in Melbourne? |

What I find interesting is that Ferrari are not putting the F2004 in a "head to head" until practice in Melbourne.

Ferrari is doing one of two things, sandbagging or they are in trouble. I believe the latter. Now Ferrari being in trouble is like saying they may lose the title this year coming in a close second. There are still 8 teams that would love to be in that much trouble. Its unusual to see them keep the car so secretive. Maybe they are giving false hope to their competitors. I think its just not proven to be better than the GA.
This offseason has been contrary to past years. Maclaren and Ferrari dont seem to be showing their hands at all. Williams is looking the fastest of all the teams in testing. Renault dont seem to be too fast but everyone thinks they could fight for the title. Teams that never used to be fast in testing are... |

neilap - Don't know where you get the idea "Renault don't seem to be too fast".
They've been consistently quick throughout testing. |
