eclectic should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Classic Shelsley, Sunday 20th July, Shelsley Walsh.

I have entered the Special Austin Mercury, the first hillclimb for this car since June 5th 1954, when it won the Syonfin, Fintona hill climb.

It was written up in Autosport June 11th 1954 “Syd Durbidge (Maserati-Griffin)
and Joe Quinn (Mercury-engined S.A.M.) were the “stars”
of the Omagh Motor Club’s hill climb at Syonfin, Co.
Tyrone, on Saturday 5th June, each making a climb in 63.2
secs.”

I have never entered this event before, has anyone any experience of the Classic Shelsley?

Will any of you be there?

Good to hear from you again, Mike. I did Shelsley over 30 years ago in my Sabre 6GT; good fun as I recall. I think (can anyone confirm) it's probably been altered, or, at least, upgraded since then. I'd bet our member, Steve Wilkinson would know!

It's great when we get to hear of cars returning after many years to their former haunts, and 54 years is a long time! Hope it all goes well.

Apart from resurfacing Shelsley hasn't been altered.
A truly wonderful place but not for the feint hearted

I had a lot of fun, though delays caused by the creation of a new "Allard's Gap" (not me, honest) in the hedge across the field at the top, meant that I had to leave before my second run.

I have no doubt that I can get it up the hill a lot faster than I did, but it will take some time to get used to it.
