Also Niki Lauda was pulled from his blazing car by I think Guy Edwards, Harald Ertl and Brett Lunger at the Nurburgring.

You guys are good!!!

Wow- you guys really know racing. I am a pretty casual fan- I mostly watch a few races each year. I usually nap until the last 100 laps or so. Thanks for the names and stories- and the many examples of racers showing some love for their teammates and other racers.

Franz Konrad is happy to take a back seat nowadays when he can source other drivers.
John Fitzpatrick did it at the end of 83.

Eric Broadley was very successful with the Lola sports car he had designed and built. then at Brands Hatch he let peter Ashdown try the car. hewas so much faster that Broadley signed him up and retired from driving to concentrate on producing Lola cars.

Those three tried. But it was only after Arturo Merzario went into the flames and undid his straps that they could pull him clear.
And Merzario didn't like Lauda!
