There wasn't an Independents' class in 2001 and I'm not sure I'd class Egg as privateers anyhow. If you discount that Neal actually scored 3 more wins before the next independent.

Who subbed for Tim Harvey in the Labatts Sierra at one of the Brands Hatch races in 1989?
Hint - A previous Bathurst winner. |

Yes WDJ and Neil Adams, it was Tomas Mezera.
Quite a good drive, he came third of fourth from memory in that race. I'm not sure why Tim Harvey wasn't racing though...... William Dale Jr, your question P.Cummins - Karl Jones was racing a Sierra at the time, doing quite well as well. He set pole in the last round of the 1989 BTCC at Silverstone. OK, in 1988, one of Reudi Eggenberger's black-and-red Texaco missiles made several appearances at rounds of the BTCC. Who drove it?
And for bonus points, when was the other time an Eggenberger-built Sierra appeared in the championship and who was at the wheel? |

Soper and Brancatelli did drive an Eggenberger RS500 in 1988. Thats definite. Im not exactly sure when it made another appearence in the BTCC but I know for sure that Eggenbergar entered a 2 or so cars in the 87 Bathurst race and in the ETCC some time later but I cannot be sure if it was an RS500. Anyway, thats beside the point.

Yep 2 x RS500s.
"won" but didn't. Someone kick my memory in to action - was the winning car excluded due to wheelarches being made of the wrong stuff. Anyway P Cummins - this left victory to the King of the Mountain - Peter Brock in his Holden. The video of the race is good - for long parts it ****ed down and some of the in car footage from the Nissan Skyline (Gary Scott?) is some of the best you will ever see. P.Cummins:
Eggenberger ran 2 XR4Ti Ford Sierra/Murkors (however it's spelt) in the 1986 ETCC. In 1988 they ran 2 and sometimes 3 RS500s in the ETCC, plus the occasional entry in the BTCC. In 1987 they ran 2 Ford Sierra Cosworths in the early rounds of the World Touring Car Championship that year, before upgrading to the RS500 at Brno? from memory. The 1987 WTCC included rounds at Bathurst (the Bathurst 1000), Calder Park (a combined oval/road coarse, Australia was the only country to get 2 rounds), Wellington and Mt Fuji. At Bathurst the Eggenberger Texaco Sierra RS500s came first and second, but were protested primarily by Frank Gardner (who ran the local factory JPS BMW M3s) for illegal wheel arch modifications. They had been modified to fit bigger wheels (and therefore tyres) They were protested and ultimatly disqualified. They appealed and took it to the FIA in Paris, who dismissed the appeal, handing the win to Peter Brock/David Parsons/Peter McLoed in the third placed Mobil Dealer Team Holden Commodore. The decision by the FIA/FISA was handed down on the Friday of the last round at Mt Fuji, forcing Eggenberger to quickly 'legalise' the cars. They still won the race though. On-Board footage of the Nissan Skyline: That was 1987, Glen Seton as the rain was starting to come down for the 'first time', before the more severe second storm. The race was cloudy, but stayed dry for roughly the first 120 laps or so (of 161). Neil - Yes, 1986 was bone dry. Still quite a good race though. The last 'real Bathurst' as some would say.....(last Bathurst with no safety cars, no Caltex Chase, no FIA interference etc.....) |

Yep, but I think it was towards the end of Conrod. Don't know about the marshall Peter Williamson had a major shunt on Conrod too in his Supra in 86. Lucky t get away with his life. |

Soper was the driver for every appearance of the Eggenberger car in the 1988 BTCC bar one: the final round at Silverstone, where Brancatelli raced (and won) whilst Soper was away racing at Bathurst that weekend. And yes, it was Amato Ferrari in 1990. He did at least 2 rounds, one at Brands where he bunkered it at Clark Curve at the end of the first lap, and he was also at the Birmingham Superprix round. Can't remember whether he appeared again, though. Your question Neil... Last edited by William Dale Jr; 25 Feb 2005 at 13:39. |
