It's still hard to believe that another talent has been snatched away from us too soon. I remember my first game I had on the Playstation - Colin McRae rally, I always chose the Impreza!

RIP Colin, Johnny, Ben and Graeme.

Devastated to hear this tragic news. I first saw Colin on the IOM in the late 80's and supported him ever since.A true professional, taking it to the limit and beyond. He still had so much to offer, not just in rallying but motorsport in general. Sincere condolences to all concerned

A man who has been at the forefront of motorsport for so many years and has made it his life for himself and many others, should have a minute of silence this weekend at all race meetings in respect.

Although I enjoy watching rallies I am not the biggest rally fan on this forum, especially the last few years. This has everything to do with Colin McRae not driving in the WRC anymore. The years that I followed rallying very closely was the years McRae was racing. He was a special person, who made me laugh with his funny remarks and who made me smile just because the way he drove a rally car. When he did the Dakar, I watched the Dakar just to see him drive. Same for when he did the 24hr.

It is fair to say that Colin McRae has been very important to me in all these years that I'm following motorracing. It was a great honour to meet him at Goodwood in 2006.

Finally I want to say rest in peace Colin, Johnny, Ben and Graeme.

I got into rallying big time in about 1997 Rally GB. And there were Colin in his Subaru and Richard in his Mitsubishi, the two Brits battling for the win, sideways through the forest in the dark, inches away from the fans letting off their fireworks & sounding their horns, over the jumps...there was Makinen, Auriol, Sainz, Kankunnen too - but you knew who everyone was supporting.

As a 13 year old, I found it completely mesmerising. It was magical in a way F1 was dry and technical and from that moment on, I was an enormous fan. Colin & Richard (equally, can't seperate them) absolutely made the WRC for me. Colin was magic, so brave, so flamboyant. He seemed to have something the other drivers didn't in terms of just throwing the car around yet staying in perfect control, when he got to the end of a stage you just knew how much effort had gone into shaving those tenths off because you'd seen it with your own eyes. When he crashed, it just made his talent more human and highlighted how close to the edge he always was. That said, 2001 Rally GB was completely gutting. Much it was great Richard won the title, that season I really felt it was Colin's year and at that stage, thought Burnsie had plenty of time to win as many World Championships as he wanted.

Make no apologies for constantly mentioning Burnsie, the two come as a package for me. I can't get my head around them both being gone forever.

RIP Colin McRae, condolances to his family. Legend.

Yes, there were strong rumours of a return to WRC for 2008. It just makes it all the worse.

It's a shame that Colin's last WRC event was that miserable Rally of Turkey in 2006.

A perfect example of the driving style that made him what he was. Commited, unerving and when he rolls it, he still goes like a bull at a gate and shows real guts and determination.

Even having met the man, although briefly, and having felt sorrow at his untimely death...... it wasn't until I found myself reaching for my McRae Rally 04 game (don't know why, just did) that it really hit me as to who and what we've lost.

Peace be with you Colin, and the involved families.

It was with great sadness that I heard the news about Colin McRae and the others lost in the tragic accident at the weekend.

I had the privledge of seeing Colin in the Chatsworth stages on route to his world title in 1995, and also to see him battle with Richard Burns as he won the 2000 Rally Catalunya.

He was a truely remarkable driver and character, whether competing in the WRC, at Le Mans or on the Paris- Dakar. His attitude and spirit shown by the fact that he only narrowly lost at the X-games (even after rolling the car), and his outing with the ASCAR / Days of Thunder cars at Rockingham, where the scrapes down the right side of the car were testament to his continual search for the limit in whatever car he was driving.

The Race of Champions at Wembley in December will not be the same, but thank you Colin for some fantastic memories over the years.

I have been away for the last week , but on Sunday Morning I was sitting in the grandstand at Sandown in Melbourne watching the V8 Supercar Warm up when they announced it over the PA.

I couldnt believe what I was hearing (I didnt here it correctly either) but I sent a text message to a friend who jumped on the net to get more details.
I was pretty upset at his replies.

a terrible tragedy and even though I dont follow rallying that much it was still quite shocking to hear of this accident.

My deepest condolences to the McRae family and friends and all of his rally fans that have been hit hard by this.

RIP Colin

I don't think I'll get over this for a long time. 14 years after I was first introduced to rallying with him at the front of the 93 RAC battling with Juha

I met Colin at the Goodwood festival of speed back in 1999. I was only 9 at the time. It was very sad hearing his death, it still hasn't sunk in. He was such a nice lovely guy. A hero and role model. He's probably one of the best WRC drivers ever and certainly brought a lot of interest of the WRC in Britain and worldwide. I was looking forward to seeing him return hopefully to the WRC in 2008. I was really annoyed back in 2003 when he was close to taking Burn's contract seat at Subaru but it never happened for 2004. I'm still very sad because Colin was awesome.
