excellent. id first though that panoz did not give that car the chance it deserved. it proved very quick early on, but it seemed like the problems became more apparent as time passed. note the very low frontal area, good for le mans providing there is enough power behind it. lets see if DBR can exposed the real potential of the 07. i also cant wait to hear that mugen engine.

At the risk of sounding cynical, I think Dick Barbour is asking for trouble. I think the LMP 07's natural climate is that of a show car.

They have also signed a deal to be techinical partners with Multimatic Racing. Hopefully DBR and Mutlimatic can solve the pitch sensitivity problems with the LMP07.

i think the new mugen engine will make the car much less of a sled than it was and hopefully allow what should be a very fst aero design to show itself

David Brabham seemed to think that the real underlying problem with the Batmobile was the sissybaby engine -- it was WAY underpowered for what they were asking it to do. But then came all the other problems -- I agree with those who think this car should have been left in the museum. It's pretty but it can't type.

In a RACER article Brabham has said the engine needed more development but the biggest problem was that under braking the chassis wuld lose around 1/2 of its aerodynamic downforce as the ground effect was lost due to excess chassis pitch. He said the car was very nervous under braking and this resulted in slower cornering speed and too much work for the smaller engine to make up for it on the straight.

Nobody has mentioned the real problem with the LMP 07 - it wasn't loud enough. Previous Panoz cars made a noise like no other, it hurt just watching them, what is was like to drive one for hours I can't begin to imagine. I am worried that however good the Mugen engines are, they may fail the ear-bleeding test...

I assume the Panoz red will be replaced by Barbour's silver paint scheme with red and blue mixed in. |

The LMP07 ran well in Adelaide, but did not last to show any real race consistancy. It's lap-times weren't too bad first up but it seemed underpowered and definitely below 600hp which is around the Roadster S specs. It's dynamics may be out somehow because it just seemed slower everywhere, each corner and of course, the straights.
I hope DBR can make it work. |

Multimatic had one on display up here in Toronto a couple of weeks back, I think you might see Scott Maxwell piloting the second car in some of the enduros such as Sebring, Le mans and Petit Le mans. I think a lot of the cars problems stemmed from the engine and an ungodly vibration that just wanted to shake the car apart.
