Chris Townsend should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Can anyone help clear up a problem with some 713Ms in 1972.

It's my understanding from press reports that the two works cars [chassis 8 and 9] were sold to the La Vie Clair team for Philippe de Henning and Jean-Claude Alzerat. [the latter is replaced by Hunt at Monaco, and the car is later also driven by Jarier and Dave Brodie] Both cars are advertised for sale together at the end of the 1972 season.
Advertised at the same time is the 713M of Anthony Binnington, which is claimed to be the car used by Hunt in the 1971 season. So, which is this car?
It can't be the 713S [chassis 1] used in early 71 because that's owned by Mike Wilds. Did Hunt also appear in the car that went to MRE [713M-7]?

At Christmas 1971 [27.12.71] Bob Evans appears the Yellow Pages Trophy at Brands in a 713M. Any one know whose car this was? Did he just run in this libre race or use it in late season F3? [
Evans ran a 723 with McKechnie in 72 so I don't think he bought the car.

I can tell you that the March 703-7 AM70-11 Halligran Holbay R70-760 27/3/70 Orange car is for sale. Have a look at it here. www.keele-racing.co.uk
Please ask any questions as I have owned the car for the last 3 years.

Could you provide any details on 719 - 1 , one of 3 Formula Fords. I hope to restore it this winter.

The March 713M I raced in 1972 was the ex works James Hunt car from 1971. I bought it from the March factory early in 1972, the chassis no. was 713M - 8.
Would like to know of its whereabouts now.

Talking about James Hunt and March 713Ms, you may be amusd to know that the other james Hunt, the northern libre driver, raced a 713M in 1977. He was third in a libre at Longridge in April. (MN 28 Apr 1977 p32)

Allen, James H was quite a well-known 'Northern Libre stalwart' of the late 70s. He raced alongside Paul Gardner IIRC, in a variety of cars in that fantastic time for Libre up here !

March chassis 703/4 was certainly owned at one time by Roger Hurst and was raced in 1972 by Richard Croucher as a Lenham March LM1/703/4.
The car had been extensively modified and fitted with a completely new body that was fabricated in the Lenham Motor Company's works.
I think the car eventually ended up with Bill Chesson who owned Lydden Circuit in Kent.
During 72 the car was raced on a number of occasions in the UK and once at Chimay.
This photograph was taken at the bottom of the Paddock at Brands in early 1972

Sorry about the Senior Moment concerning the later life of March 703/4. On reflection it was Richards Merlyn Mk17a that ended up with Bill Chesson.

Richard is trying to find out from Julian Booty of Lenham Motor Company what actually did happen to the chassis.

I will re-post when I hear from him.

I think that 703-4 was most likely the March rebuilt by Roger as an FF2000 in 1976 and then sold to Tim Campbell, but it never raced in FF2000

Not sure about this as I don't speak a word of Italian but Clois Avigni may have an ex-Lange March 713 in 1972. Or maybe "ex Lange" could also be an Italian expression meaning that it's painted green?!? Fossati also has a March 713. Either way, Autosprint 26 July 1972 p28.

Could you reproduce the exact text of the Italian. I suspect this is a 713S
Most of the 713Ms are accounted for in 1972

Heinz Lange appears with a March 713S at Hockenheim 28 Nov 71, entered by Rallye und Racing Gemeinschaft Karlsrühe. This is at a time when Eifelland are divesting themselves of some seven 713S’s… [they also had one or two 713Ms]

Again at Nurburgring 2 April 72, then at Monza 16 April, where he is listed by F2 Register as having a 713M [but I wonder…]
By Hockenheim 14 May, Lange has got himself a BT35

This suggests that ‘ex Lange’ refers to the former driver…

By the time of Varano 27 Aug 72, Clois Avigni had got a BT35 too, so the ad was presumably a success.

Sorry, I should have been clearer. It wasn't an ad, it was a news piece.

March 713 Chassis

From the 1972 Italian F3 series:

713-1 = Pier-Giorgio Tenani & "Shangry-La" - Scuderia Italia

713M-5 = Antonio Stalfieri - Scuderia Italia

NB Fabrizio Noe also drove a 713 (chassis number unlisted) at Nurburgring 03/04 for Scuderia Italia - it could have been either -1 or -5.

March 703-7

I am now the proud owner of 703-7, having purchased it from Tony Keele. It will spend its time doing hillclimbs and the odd sprint, before I eventually get enough confidence to join the HSCC race series!

Having now gained that confidence - it had its first outing circuit racing (in my hands) at the HSCC meeting at Snetterton on May 31st 2009.

Note slight change of colour scheme!

Many thanks to Eric Sawyer for the very nice photo - more of which I shall be purchasing from him during the season.

Hi Andrew,

Good to see you at Snetterton, nice to see another 703 out!

Car looked and sounded good.

Are you out at Brands next week? A record 31 cars entered, great...

Grant. (Red March 703)
