Baron says the spec ACO Zytek and other spec components equal to 20% budget savings
http://www.racer.com/imsa/item/12885...017-p2-program He also says that now he's able to bring that spec P2 to anywhere in the world. Even though that has been the case for years already had he retained the HPD... |

I wonder how much $$$ "savings" there are in running the spec Hoosier-Contis, instead if the formula was open like in rest of the world.

And this is based on what exactly? Guesses? The presumption that just because it's made spec (by organizers greed for sponsor money) it automatically means cheaper?
The open tires LMP2 teams use are not exactly confidentials like the Mics and Dunlops in LMP1 and LMGTE(-PRO) are. Because multi stinting is next to useless in IMSA due to the lame pit rules of simultaneous fueling and tires, you also end up spending more on extra sets than you would elsewhere. Also any team taking part in Le Mans will have to dump those Hoosier-Contis of course, if they don't want to suck that is, so there's the inevitable middle season change for those teams too. If they're a control tire, what stops them or the series from dictating higher and higher prices? Pirelli tires in f1 come at a pretty penny and they aren't sitting well with the teams.

Dunlop tweeted this yesterday. Can't find any actual news on it. Have they jumped the gun?
Dunlop Motorsport (@DunlopMSport) tweeted at 6:44pm - 4 May 16: Great news for #ELMS #WEC teams: UK Prototype Series announces new package to convert older #LMP2 cars. More info @BritcarNews #Endurance (https://twitter.com/DunlopMSport/sta...155292160?s=17) |

So it will probably come the most technologically advanced (even with old open tops) and varied prototype series in regional Europe, what with the dumbing down of ELMS? Add to that that they have CNs and mix of other weirdo baby protos there as well.

There have been plenty of attempts at setting up new prototype series in the not too distant past, all of them fell on their faces.... |

In the brand new world of ELMS, there are no theories left, only spec. Anyway, there was also that other new UK series (at least I think it had nothing to do with this one) that was starting to run full-on LMP3 cars too in the near future. |

All these new "technical partnerships" in LMP2 make it just seem like OAK vs. G-Drive Haha.

So Oreca is planning to title the new 2017 spec LMP2 as Oreca 07? I don't get it, why skip 06? At least 03 and 05 naming schemes made certain logical sense if you know the background of their model history.
Oh well it could be worse, the R18 mess |

Didn't they refer the stillborn Oreca 02 as just 02? You know the LMP1 car in development for 2011 but which never actually materialized? Or would they have rebranded that as 03 and rebranded actually existing 03 open top LMP2 as 05?
Though as I've said before. the FLM09-Oreca-Courage could theoretically be the 02 between the two, just as the R-One/04 connects the 03 and 05. |

Beaumesnil confirms all open tops are still eligible next year (except IMSA). As I've been saying all along
