Muzza should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Cause of Barrichello's stop

Barrichello just finished an interview with a Brazilian radio and said "I don't know what happened... I just lost the telemetry [note by Muzza: I guess he meant the digital dashboard] and then the engine cut off. It just 'died'."

However... A friend of mine who watched the race from the end of the Reta Oposta just called me. He said that the word in the track is that the Ferrari simply ran out of fuel. Barrichello was scheduled to stop on the previous lap, and it is possible that the Ferrari team miscalculated the fuel consumption (due to safety car periods).

My friend said that many people heard the Ferrari engine gasping (as for fuel) the lap Barrichello stopped.

Any comments from other sources?

Interesting.

My first thought was that he had ran out of fuel, but I just can't beleive it was the case. Maybe a fuel pick-up problem?

I've not seen anything from the usual sites...

I thought...well, this is what I thought when Rubens stopped. So sad, so avoidable. Isn't this what they said last year, too? One thing's for sure: We'll never hear the definitive answer from the Scuderia!

He's making it further into the races though, last 2 times he's retired while leading... maybe NEXT year?

I hate to think what he must be feeling like now though, you could feel his dissapoitment when he slowed...

So Ferrari, a multi-billion dollar operation, can't even tell when one of their drivers is running out of fuel? Seems a shade unlikely, but it's certainly possible...

I think it ran out of fuel.
If I worked for Ferrari I wouldn't admit that we let it go dry. lol

You don't want to know the shady thoughts that went through my mind when he first slowed.......but the poor guy looked so dejected......

What was the point of keeping the 2002 cars instead of going with the alledgedly much quicker 2003 Ferrari.....

Oh, that's right....reliability. D'oh!

I believe it's very dificult to put a fuel gauge in an F1 car.

I could be wrong but I believe the fuel is stored in the tank in a foam very much like a sponge to stop the liquid sloshing around and unsrttling the car due to the g-forces.

So the teams really have to calculate how fuel is in there.

If I've got this completely wrong then please correct me.

I know what happened.
Mr Brawan pressed the disable Barras' car button.

Ferarri will NEVER let Barras beat Shu.....EVER.

But Schu was out of the running. Why would the team scupper the chance of constructor points at least?

But even with his DNF he already had.

Even if they did, it's a stupid thing to do. I really can't buy that suggestion. To the media it's all about the drivers, but to the teams the constructors championship is the most important. I dn't buy that suggestion for the seconds. Throwing away 10 points just on pride? I don't think so.

With an F1 car they measure the exact amount of fuel going in. I can’t imagine they don’t have a flow meter in the fuel line to tell them exactly how much fuel goes into the engine at any given time. So working out how much fuel is in the tank should be very easy.

I would've thought you'd get a little bit of warning with fuel aswell.

Remember when they shaked the car from side to side to pick up those last few drops. Maybe I'm wrong, I hope Rubens didnt lose out because of something stupid though.

Hey!! remember the early Beetles? They didn't have a fuel gauge, but they did have a small lever that operated a reserve tank. I had a similar system on my Matchless bike also.
I am sure what with the Safety car, and the slower laps, Ross must have miscalculated how much fuel was used.

I wouldn't be that surprised, its not an exact science as one might think, even in road cars everyone knows that you don't stop the instant it hits empty

If it ran out of gas then Brawn and Co have a lot of explaining to do. Its just a shame that he didnt finish again. Im not a huge fan of Barrichelo but the guy certainly deserved to be on the podium if not win the last 2 Brazilian grand prixs.

It wouldn't suprise me at all for that would explain why Barrichello was so much quicker just before he stopped because the car was running dry, not that you'll ever get the true story from Ferrari.

When he passed DC, something in my little brain said "I hope he doesn't run out of fuel". Then a few corners later he pulls in. I really think it was that one thought that jinxxed him. Will we ever find out?

How logn had it been sicne Rubens pitted, and how many laps since the earlier pitstop had been under safet car? I would've thought that there would be enough fuel in the car to go further than they did, but I may be wrong. They all pitted after Firman and Panis clashed.
