The FIA have taken the decision to ban tobacco advertising at the end of 2006. How do you think this will affect the order of the grid from then on ? B&H, West, Marlboro, etc, all bring much money to the top teams - do you think that these teams will take a while to catch up when they lose these sponsorships ?

Well if this does go ahead (and that's a big if) I don't think it will have too much effect on Ferrari. Remember, they have millions of pounds coming in from Fiat. I think that Jordan, McLaren &c. will have to use this time to fix themselves up with major sponsors who aren't tobacco companies.
This could hopefully narrow the gap between the teams as some teams eg. Williams have no tobacco sponsorship whatsoever. Could well be the demise of BAR, though... |

hmmm... on second thoughts, perhaps the bigger teams will get the pick of the sponsors whether they be cancer stick makers, auto builders or IT/www companies.
BAR are all set to become Honda as soon as tobacco sponsorship is banned or, if you believe the rumours, in 2002 whilst retaining sponsorship from BAT. McLaren are currently part owned by the huge Daimler-Chrysler group. Looks like the status quo will continue... the biggest losers will, it seems, be Jordan once again. Let's just hope that 7-Up are interested in making a comeback as title sponsors... How cool would that be! |

No worries for McLaren and Ferrari.
The sponsorships from satellite broadcasting is more than enough to replace the tobacco money. And the Internet broadcasting would have taken off big time in 6 years' time. I predict companies like Microsoft, Virgin or BSkyB to move in and fill the gap. |

This only enforce something we are seeing in the last years.
All teams will be just extensions to the big manufacturers. I bet the next year will be the last for Prost. Minardi, Sauber and Arrows will soon follow the same way. Sad but true. |
