SL should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
OK If this proves popular I will try and do one once a week for the next few weeks, if not never again !

The aim is to guess the year, added points for the month and extra details.

1/ Btcc Vauxhall driver John Cleland will contest the Porsche Supercup race to be held at the British GP

2/ Giancarlo Minardi warns that his team may quit F1 in favour of a touring car programme if it's GP fortunes fail to improve before the end of the season

3/The ACO announces that it intends to pitch for the XXXX French GP to be brought to it Bugatti circuit.

4/There is sensation at Indy as neither Penske driver XXXXXXXXX or XXXXXXX qualify for the 500. The team tries both Reynard and Lola chassis but still fails to make the cut.

5/ Astute XXXXXX Pit work allows M Schumaker win his X Monaco win in succession

It was 1995, as Schumacher only won two Monaco races back to back in the benetton 94/95.

The Month was probably May?

It had to a fair old time ago, for Cleland to get a decent drive!

If its one year then it is '95,

1. was in July

4 & 5 were in May and I confess I have no recollection of 2 or 3.

As I recall Cleland qualified well (top 6?) but retired (?)

Here is an attempt at a couple of the questions.

1/ John Cleland qualified 6th, spun a couple of times during the race and finished 8th in the Porsche Supercup. Later the same day he won the BTCC race supporting the British Grand Prix. His team-mate in the Porsche guest cars that weekend was originally going to be the F1 photographer Martyn Elford, but he was refused an entry after a licence mix-up. He was replaced by French F3 driver Jeremie Dufour, who was invited to race the car one hour before qualifying. He finished the race just ahead of Cleland in 7th place.

4/ Both Al Unser Jr and Emerson Fittipaldi failed to qualify for the Indianapolis 500, just a year after dominating the same race. The Penske team tried Lola, Reynard, '94 Penske and '95 Penske chassis but couldn't get up to speed. At the next CART race at Milwaukee, a week later, the Penske team qualified 2nd and 3rd. During that race, Al Unser Jr finished 2nd.

5 June Minardi watns that he might switch to saloons

16 June ACO announces that they will pitch for the French GP 1997. Meanwhile the Dutch Govt announce a major refit for Zandvoort to try to regain F1 by the year 2000.
