Glowing Exhaust @ Sebring 2002

I was looking through some of my old pics from the 2002 12 Hours of Sebring the other day and I was reminded of the spectacle I saw on Yojiro Terada's P675 AutoExe Mazda, for the exhaust was glowing bright orange and was spitting out a sizeable blue flame upon full throttle!! As you can imgine, I was quite amazed when I first saw this as night set in at Sebring. And I've been wondering since March...what's the story behind this exhaust? I was hoping you guys could provide some insight. Here's a link to a pic (not very good quality, however ). You can see the bright orange glow eminating from behind the right rear wheel.
