DOWNFORCE UK RADIO
Downforce UK began as a podcast as recently as July 2012, and is the brainchild of Eurosport & Motors TV motorsports commentator and television presenter Jake Sanson. A fan of motorsport podcasts, Jake was frustrated that there wasn't a podcast that covered multiple disciplines of motorsport simultaneously, but plenty for the world of Formula One.
After spending the first half of the season breaking into sports commentary for short track oval racing, British Superkart racing and club-based Autograss racing, Jake felt it was wrong that people didn't know more about these forms of car racing and decided that the only way to change that was to take matters into his own hands and share his new found knowledge with the world. After grabbing some pretty hefty interviews at test sessions, race meetings and thanks to Skype, Jake was able to put enough together to make a show, and the first edition went out on 1st September 2012. Since then Downforce UK has covered topics in Formula 1, BTCC, Le Mans, WRC, GP2 and more, and attended events like the Britcar 24 Hours, the British Superkart Grand Prix, the Autosport International Show and BTCC race meetings amongst others. Downforce UK has spoken to personalities in F1, BRISCA, World Sportscars, touring cars, single seaters and more. Our programme has been getting some big attention since its inception in 2012 and we've interviewed the likes of Sir Jackie Stewart, Paul di Resta, Rob Huff, Jason Plato, Matt Neal, Johnny Herbert, Allan McNish and even more. And we've even had some motorsport exposure thanks to young Russian ace Ivan Taranov, who sported the Downforce logo on his Formula Renault car during the BTCC Brands Hatch finale. Moving into 2013, we have teamed up with Team Roper Racing for their assault on the 2013 National Ministox championship on the oval racing scene and as you can see from our banner, our colours are evident on the cars of young guns Spencer & Sam Roper. Heading into 2013 and beyond, we are aiming to cover motorsport events live from the race track on internet radio so that you guys can listen to us live from the racetrack wherever you are in the world, on your Apple or Android device or smartphone, or on your computer. We would in the future like to expand to be on DAB radio as well but our 2013 is going to be busy enough as it is! We will be in attendance at BTCC, sportscar, single seaters, drag racing, karting and stock car events working tirelessly to bring you the best motorsport coverage on radio and our hope is that we will be broadcasting live every weekend in 2014 and beyond! We are following the progress of Team Roper Racing and Chevron GT Cars in the worlds of BRISCA National Ministox and British GT & endurance racing. We are always on the look out for good stories and interesting race teams to get involved with, and just because we have the shows we currently do, it definitely doesn't mean that we can't feature more teams on the channel. We would be very interested in covering individual drivers, teams, championships and motorsport disciplines as we feel there are many important motor-racing stories to tell that the general public have never heard. So if you race dragsters, stock cars, single seaters, karts, motorcycles, pick-ups, hovercrafts or even lawnmowers, we want to hear from you. So come and listen to us: www.downforce-radio.co.uk |
