I was not able to watch Road Atlanta, but the first two superbike rounds at Daytona and Fontana were quite good. The sportbike class has been brilliant to watch. The racing is improved for sure, but you get this feeling that it's dumbed down a bit.

You'd like to think that it has bottomed out & the series is on the way up again - hopefully some manufacturers jump back onboard in 2011...

The format is NASCAR modified for bikes. The stake holders make sure that no one bike has a competitive edge. That was always the intent, and it appears to be working. David Atlas (CEO of DMG is a Harvard law grad, very, very smart) knew what he was doing when this series started.

Well, according to Roadracing World, Eric Bostrom has agreed to ride a magazine project GSX-R1000 utilizing parts from Attack and Yoshimura. Should be 3 races including Laguna, VIR and Barber.
http://www.roadracingworld.com/news/...?article=40273 Guess he got tired of doing whatever it is he was doing in South America... Kinda cool I guess, but he's gonna get smoked. He was a such a talented and quick rider at one point. I guess he just lacked that day to day desire and determination. This seems so long ago: |

Remember when he 1st came into Superbike on the American Honda & won 2 of his first 3 starts - won more races than his bro who won a championship

I believe that Ben hasn't won a superbike race before despite winning the title, while Eric has won several.

Hayes did the double over the weekend at Infineon. He made it look easy. Bostrom and Pegram were 2nd and 3rd in both races. There were some nice battles for the lower positions, but Hayes was pretty much on his own.
On a side note, Elena Meyers became the first female to win an AMA road race in the supersport class. Although, it was a shortened event. |

Bout time Josh came good on that R1 - expect him to dominate the championship from now on....
Cardenas & Eslick took the Sportsbike race wins. Question : Which of the 2 championships (Superbike/Sportsbike) to DMG promote as the premier class of racing? |

With that said, the racing in superbike has been good this year. So maybe they will put some effort into the class. |

Josh Hayes and Tommy Hayden split the Road America weekend. Both races were nearly identical. Hayden pretty much stalked Hayes for both races till the closing laps. Race 1 was a photo finish while Race 2 was a few bike lengths. But the races were not as exciting as the finishes would lead you to believe. Hayden is now leading the points by 2 over Hayes.
Josh Herin and Martin Cardenas split the sportbike races. The action was fierce with lots of passing, but also a lot of errors. Seemed more like club racing... |

Josh Waters was testing the Yoshimura superbike he was to ride in place of Blake Young at Mid Ohio and Laguna. He wadded it up in 8 and 9 and had to be air lifted. Sounds like head trauma. I have done many track days at Willow Springs and that is not a good place to go off. Turn 8 is the fastest turn on the track. The fast guys are probably doing 140 plus through 8.

Josh Hayes and Tommy Hayden traded wins over the weekend. Hayes leads by four points going into Laguna. On a positive note, there are 28 bikes entered for the Laguna Seca round, including an Aprilia, two Ducs, four Beemers, and a Buell. However, still not one Honda or one Kawi.
Notable entries, Miguel Duhamel and Eric Bostrom. Also, Red Bull Rookies Cup rider Jake Gagne will make an outing in Supersport. |
