Egg Are all the current COTF chassis legal...

...or is the latest tit for tat between 888 and FPR just a poor vintage of grape juice?

Story Here

Something smells funny here... It seems to take a protest to be lodged every time?

With the amount of concessions allowed to some teams by way of engine specs, I wouldn't be surprised if breaches were found if all cars were given a suprise once-over by the scrutineers.

But one has to wonder if that would be good for the category. It would make headlines but wouldn't be of the positive variety for the category.

Absolutely.

The ASTC had similar problems. A lot of cars were grandfathered, or assumed to be of the correct specification, but if one were to exclude one car, they'd have to do likewise for the rest of the field. Wouldn't have left many cars to race though...

Given that all the engines in the category are sealed and get a full stripped-down inspection and measurement when it's time for the seals to come off, also that cars are checked on a fully laser aligned chassis jig, have data monitors and a range of other monitoring protocols, the likelihood of illegal chassis is low.

From time to time though, teams are going to try stuff that's marginal or get it wrong and other teams may well protest. It's part of the sport and Red Bull got caught doing something that the rules say they shouldn't, doesn't matter if there is or isn't a performance advantage.

They in turn went for a bit of payback against FPR - it's all pretty childish and hissy fitish but part of the sport.
