Motor sport using digital
I noticed that "Digital Photographer" magazine (issue 11) has an article on shooting motor sport with digital cameras. I haven't read it yet but it might be worth a look at your local newsagent. It looks like they are aiming at the higher end of the digital market, but there may be useful tips.

There's some good tips but I wish they wouldn't always equate motorsport with F1. Apart from 3 small bike shots it's all F1 pictures. Obviously some of the tips will transpose to lower formula but not everything.
Iterestingly for a 'how to be a pro motorsports photog' article it almost skips over the small matter of getting accreditation and pretty much all the tips simple won't work without a pass. Ayse, think there's a new weekly partwork coming out with a build-yourself digital SLR. Just £4.99 an issue of the next 5 years |

I have looked and looked for articles about press accreditation. As is typical with many photography journals, they seem to offer little int he way of practical info and lots ofd the stuff you already seem to know. Its pretty obvious to use faster shutter speeds, fast fstops, polarizing filters when the light is quarterting into the lens, etc.
I just took about 400 shots at the USAC Tulsa 100 Champ car race (the original champ cars) racing at the Tulsa County Fairgrounds 5/8s mile dirt track. I bought a pit pass and just followed the other press photogs like I knew what I was doing and got within 8 feet of the track for some great action shots. |
