If you go to www.kartweb.com you can download some quite good in kart camera on a 250 superkart, takes a while depending on what type of connection you have but well worth it,look for the Road Atlanta videos on the first page, you have to scroll down a bit

Tom
I dont advocate "progressing" thru the different (smaller) cpacity ranks as many do. Each an every category has its own style of approach and driving. As Warwick said, its really a matter of choosing a capacity that gives you a stiffy and just getting into the thing on your own and just simply "tuning into it"!
You already have plenty experience with karts as you run a 100cc thing and at the end of the day it will behave in a very similar way to a gearbox kart 'cept you will now have to shift.
I would not advise a complete newbie to jump straight into an F/E or IC/E but having said that, I have seen guys come into the sport at that level and run really quickly and safely!
Go for it dude, you will never regret it. Unless your engine goes bang all the time!!!! LOL
Warwick will know exactly what i mean when you get the thing out of,, say,, a real tight 90Deg bend in second with the arse hanging out purely on horsepower alone and blast it thru a couple of gears to another tighter hairpin and have to stand on the brakes and shift it madly down with the arse end squirrelling about and then kick it in the head again down the next straight right up to 230kph. Its a thrill I can never get enough of!! Bwahhhahahahahahaha!

Those Road Atlanta vids are really good but are really big files as they also have sound. Nearly 30 Meg each!
I downloaded them via a phone line and 56k modem but it took about 3 1/2 hours to get them.
I just set the thing to download and went to bed!

Yeah or two wide off the front straight at 220k rubbing against the guy beside you as you go for the brakes, oopppppsss thats right I fell off the track when I tried that lol

I have been converted to my mates way of thinking "If its not a 250 superkart it's not a real Kart"

Once you drive one you won't want anything else!

"Once you drive one you won't want anything else!" That's the point, I'm very happy in my 100cc, but I have a chance to drive one!!! What to do, what to do

Evan, thanks for the "progressing" theory!!

Both of you guys are hopelessly devoted Very admirable! BTW, you can bet if (when) I end up driving the 250, I will post! I have a feeling it will happen THIS next year...no not 2004!

Oh please. You might as well say F1 cars aren't real racing cars because sports prototypes and CART are quicker. Well in both cases we all know where the talent and competition is, in F1 and in 100cc and 125cc.

Montreal F1 pole - 1:12
Montreal CART pole 1:18

ALMS/Le Mans times are about even with F3000 (sportscars are very heavy even for the prototypes) on most tracks, fluctuating a second one way or the other depending on the nature of the circuit.

Ok F1 is no longer competition its only a procession and one of the real talents of F1 David Coulthard(if you can call him that)said driving a 250 superkart was the scariest thing he had ever done.

I can't remember the circuits but there are one or two in the UK where F1 used to race (Oulton park?) and Superkarts were quicker,I will try and find the source.

I enjoy watching the 100cc roadracing as it is very close and competitive but I wouldn't want to race one,and no one I know who has moved into 250 gearbox classes would ever go back.

what road racing event are we talking about?

When we talk about road racing in NZ we are talking about sealed race circuits, there has been some street racing in the past, but due to spectator fatalitys at Queenstown car racing and liability issues the national body will no longer issue permit

Sorry I thought you meant by road racing as if on street circults instead of purpose built curcults

What's the engine on Mr.H's kart in the picture - don't recognize it. looks like a TZ/RD but it can't be.

By the way - here's a quick question for all you knowledgeable folks out there. Anyone have any idea how much it would cost to ship a kart/engine combo from the UK to the East coast of the US ??

Mate,
best way is to get in touch with any freight forwarding crowd thatr deals with containerised freight. With the size of the crate rerquired for a superkart and its goodies you will pay a cubic rate rather than a mass weight.

Dunno what the engine is,normally Hines only ran Rotax but it looks to wide to be one of those,he was listed for Laguna Seca with a Aprilla.

Ahhhh yep I bet that's what it is. Thanks. The Eagle is an awesome looking chassis - but too rich for my wife's blood - at least this year anyway.
