I left the chatrrom at 23h00pm yesterday eve, but time didn't improved in the last hour.
Some explanations : - the teams have still to work on the race set-up - qualies are expensive (Pescarolo usualy don't use more than one or two qualies) - Sebastien Bourdais announced yesterday in Ouest-France that they won't try to do something for qualifications or in the first hours of the race : they'll push during the night |

Weather : rain and local storms are not confirmed on La Sarthe, even if they'll be rain on Normandie.
We could have more performances tonight. |

Our predictions were far too optimistic for now for the pole...

yeah, Champion, 3m31.2? Unlikely methinks. Thats at least one of the prediction things I won't win.

All the teams think they can go significantly quicker. I think a 3.30-32 is still on if the weather holds.

Despite my affection and admiration for those private teams, the LMP2 performances are really too disparate/scratch to justify an existence.
Not talking about the Belmondo car, that had a problem, there's 26 seconds between the best and the worst LMP2 (21 seconds in LMP1 - let's forget the Panoz (not enough time for an unprepared car), and the Taurus diesel, the Del Bello car doesn't match at all with the other LMP1 ; its place is clearly with the LMP2 - and GT, 14 in GTS). |

Well the proposed Mazda LMP2 should boost the LMP2 grid and give the Courage some competition. Plus the best non-Courage, the new K2 Pilbeam is not in the race.
Wonder if those teams with Reynard chassis are looking at upgrading their car to the NASAMAX 2004 spec. NASAMAX are certainly looking to sell cars. BTW looking at the pace of the Courage (3.42), the NASAMAX should be capable of a 3.35-38, or there abouts. Last edited by JAG; 10 Jun 2004 at 10:00. |

So a rainy race maybe?
Changeable conditions would be good for racing, you have to admit |

From the radar I saw a few minutes ago, it looks like the rain will pass to the north of Le Mans for today....
and the air temp was 77 degrees Fahrenheit with clouds.... Sounds like a fast session day to me.... and I can't see Champion, the Audi #88, Team Goh, RfH, or the Zytek sitting back on their times....Pesca said they aren't likely to use more expensive qual tires....so they may sit on their time and focus on the race set-up in both sessions today... Question: Didn't teams get all 3 drivers in therir cars yesterday in the last session in case the rain hit today??? If so, we could see good, fast action in this first part, before teams finalize their race set-ups inteh second part.... Your thoughts???? I still think that a hot lap in the 3:30 - 3:32 range will happen.... |

Well, since I predicted a 3:28.5, I sure hope so . But I'm not terribly optimistic, as historically Thursday has not been about outright 1-lap speed.

Virtually everyone on the charts has to make up at least 2 seconds, and in my case, about 4 seconds...
We'll see what happens today....but I do see some movers....last year the R&S car didn't have a good 1st session, so Goossens went out anfd ran a good flyer to move the car way up the grid to 7th.... I think a few of them will go for it in the first of two parts today...the final one will focus on night set-ups... |

If track conditions were not that stellar yesterday, which it sounds like they were not, I think we might see some outright qualification attempts today. And I would definitely say that there is more pace left in some of the cars. As Tim said, a 3:30-32 lap is in the cards if the track conditions are right.

Well I posted in the other thread that I'd love to see what one of these cars could do with modern day Michelin qualifiers and a top pilot. And I've seen a few pics from this week, talk about stunning! Oh that Martini Lancia gets the mouth watering. Group C will always be the bees knees of racing cars!

I posted the same message in the Weather thread : no rain expected any more, the times should be beaten, according to the specialists on the spot !
