More articles on driving technique?

I’m a freelance magazine writer, and I’m thinking of doing a series of articles on high-performance driving technique. I’ve noticed that most car magazines--even those devoted to sports and performance cars--don’t really run many stories about that.

What do you think? Would anyone be interested in articles on how to improve their driving skills?

If so, what kinds of things would you like to learn more about?

There was an excellent series recently in evo magazine, I think with John Lyon. But then evo is the cream of the crop - you would expect such a group of genuine enthusiasts to realise that real drivers want to learn about driving.

If you can sell it as a regular article, why not cover the variety of courses available - in the UK this would include the Institute of Advanced Motorists (IAM) course and test, probably HPC - John Lyon's High Performance Course/Club (you join the Club when you've passed the Course), any number of other advanced tutors such as Paul Ripley, and a few track driving courses (Nigel Mansell/Jim Russell schools etc) for good measure.

I've done a few of these - couple of track driving things, and I've passed the IAM test - but I still intend to do more, especially the HPC when time/money allow.

I think to be a credible article, the best approach is from the point of view of the student on one of the established courses mentioned.

That would make good reading I think, and perhaps go some small way towards improving the driving standards of the public!!

Yeah! it would make good reading I will always listen to people who have more knowledge than me on driving.
However most of the motoring public don't care about improving their driving once they have passed their test. They all think they are perfect and the rest of us are mad. Compulsory re-tests would be a great way to improve general driving standards, but the politicians wouldn’t touch that with a barge pole. So we are left with more speed cameras and traffic calming.
